Just ordered microSD adapter for the iPod, 2x 128GB microSD and 3000mAh battery. In about three weeks this is going to be an ultimate unit.
So for about $1000, my next laptop would be a Thinkpad with 128GB of RAM and a 4TB SSD? Is this the real world or just a fantasy?
The Trump Administration Accidentally Texted Me Its War Plans
Holy fuck, I’m not even sure what to say at this point. Also, fuck them for plotting against Europe. This is why me and lots and lots of people in my circle are going European-first. Wifey and I are doing our part on it - whenever we see something, we check if it’s from the USA and if it is, we try to find a European alternative.
This is a very interesting thing happening, because Trump’s administration succeeded in something finally - they made us, Europeans, be proud of Europe and be proud of European services and products.
Not sure how it happened, but it happened, and suddenly I’ve got 7TB of HDD/SSD storage connected to my PC.
I like how Android works in terms of theming. I’ve changed my wallpapers and now even UI accent colours are changed to match the vibe.
I can so I do jump between phones. You can’t catch me. One day I’m androiding, next time I’m on iPhone with iMessages turned on. Never let them know your next move.
The more I use the cheapest Pixel available with Gemini on it, the more amazed I am at how terrible Siri is. Holy shitballs. It’s seriously sad.
Deleted tiktok, Instagram and reddit from my phones. Again. I think this is the moment in which my mental health needs them to be unreachable.
Day One on Windows. Finally.
I also love when Apple influencers are screaming about how Apple behaves badly but ask them if they would make a change and then suddenly there’s this one very, very critical workflow that they wouldn’t be able to reproduce on other OS. But if only!
Lee and Jason made some good points regarding change.
And Lee said: I’ve gotten to the point where I’m less and less interested in listening to those that on one hand say Apple etc are gross then go out and buy the next thing they release.
Even though he didn’t say it, I immediately thought about all of these Apple influencers with podcasts. Apple bad, but new phone yes please.
iPhone 16e without MagSafe - bummer. Not that I was interested in it, but I thought they would be adding it to every product. And it looks like the 16e has even worse wireless charging capabilities than my own 14 Plus.
Interesting things that are happening in our household are talks about how we should probably switch from being an Apple-mostly household to being more open. And interestingly, I’m not the one that has the strongest opinions here. My wife has even started thinking about the Nothing Phone (probably the not-yet-unveiled 3/3a) as a successor to her iPhone 11 Pro.
421 days of adding something new to Day One, 223 days of tracking calories in Lose It, 2010 days of playing Torn. You might say I like routines.
Maybe related to my previous post but maybe not - I’m moving off Google and Apple Photos onto Ente.
If you want to, you can use my Referral Code - NMWZUZ and get another 10GB for free.
I’m getting older, and I don’t care as much about open source and such. But at the same time, the older I get, the more concerned I become about being screwed over by another proprietary software changing its rules or something similar, forcing me to find an alternative to whatever I was using. It’s so annoying!
Material You or whatever it is called on Android is much better than whatever iOS is doing. But that’s like my opinion.
Now I get why people with their own flats are so resistant to even considering renting a flat in the future.
Main sim is in Pixel, again. But this time I just demoted iphone to secondary phone. Not much changes but SIM card.
Only thing I need my iPhone is whoop journal every morning. Android doesn’t let Whoop take all the nutrition data and iOS does. I love that I can jump between iOS and Android now.
Support small web, support independent social media, own your content. These are going to be more and more important. Just don’t let billionaires own your things again, we know what happens when they do.
The less I use social media the better I feel and I didn’t think it was something that would affect me. Happy, in my lane, nourished.
That was quick. USA dropping out from Paris Agreement, WHO and bringing back death penalty. If you voted Trump, you deserve everything that’s going to happen now.
Trying to move to Actual Budget from YNAB (YNAB renewal date is in like two weeks). Any good apps for IOS or Android? Any tips for someone coming from YNAB?
Whenever I use Pixel 8a (I do it everyday) I’m amazed how great this device feels. And then I remember it costs like 30% of what the iPhone costs. Still. Everyday after three months.
I need to take camera out with me more. Either my film Canon or the digital one. I have never regretted having a photo.
I know how privileged this is, but I can’t wait to finish the apartment so I can finally be in a place we designed with love and care, filled with things that are dear to us. Each piece of furniture, lighting, and even the paintings or art pieces were chosen by us because we care about such details. This is going to be a wonderful place to be in.
It’s growing on me. Not sure what watch would be next. From the first one to second one was a month, I think I’m gonna wait more than that now (fingers crossed cause I know myself).
… new watch, who dis? Casio Duro. Wanted to see if I’d like something heavier and bigger on my wrist. Love this green colour and now I have two different watches to pick from!

Found myself new obsession - Pale Jay. Just listen to him. He’s out of this world.
Funny thing about Nothing Ear A is that even though they have very similar form factor to AirPods Pro - they stay in my ears and are much more comfortable. Price being 1/3 of Pro’s is another pro (no pun intended).
The case with two phones is that when one of them dies there’s still another one with some battery left.
Can’t lie - it does feel amazing that I do have everything I’d love to listen to on this unbelievably small device.
This isn’t the iPod I was taking about previously. This one has shitty battery and only 16GB of storage and I’m thinking about pulling the trigger on refurbished iPod Classic with 256GB SD card instead of the old HDD. This could be awesome.
Something I found out about and loved ever since - you can get really cheap domains if you buy .ovh domains on OVH or six~ number dot xyz on Cloudflare. Honestly, they’re like $3 a year and now I own too many of them.
The EU wants Apple to open AirDrop and AirPlay to Android and other platforms
Looks like another great feature will be made better thanks to EU!
Big, proper games won’t come to macOS as long as storage on Macs remains so prohibitively expensive. You can’t reasonably consider buying a game that takes up 50% or more of your disk space.
Vivaldi sync stopped working a week ago and it’s taking ages to be fixed. At this point I’m thinking of getting to Chrome again…
Let’s imagine for a second that this isn’t a blogpost or microblog post but my ICQ/jabber status.
❤️ I love you ‘cause you’re smashing into everything… That’s why I’m in. 💥 All of us are smashing into everything 💫 - Now Playing: Enter the Mirror - Everything Everything
Instead of buying an iPod I should just get mp3 of whatever is missing on Apple Music, put it onto the iPhone and save about $100. I know this is the way to go but it FEELS wrong because I could get a new toy that I’ve always wanted that I will ditch after two weeks (days even probably).
I’ve had about four Windows updates in the span of three days. Each one, of course, requires a reboot. So now, instead of letting it update my PC, I’ve postponed every single update for five weeks just so it finally lets me use the PC without being in a constant state of rebooting. This has never changed—every single macOS, iPhone, or Android update is something I welcome with open arms, but whenever Windows needs updating, I’m on the verge of crying myself to sleep at the mere thought of it.
The biggest tech revelation for me this year is that I don’t have to rely on Apple that much. I’ve embraced the open waters. I haven’t moved to Android completely (yet?), but I’m a bit of a “two-phones” type of guy now. I dropped the Apple Watch and went with a Whoop + normal watch combo. Apart from my Mac, I got myself a really nice tower PC that I use every day. There’s more to it, too—I had to find multi-platform apps, and I’m happy to say I’m good. Everything works great, and I live happily in this messy ecosystem.
Apparently, I didn’t need so many things I thought were necessities. It’s freeing.
I wish new hobbies wouldn’t cost about $100 to start. I’m looking at used iPods and some of them are very cheap but need some tinkering…
Leaving Apple Watch behind will be problematic for sure, but holy shit I will not miss my wrist vibrating whenever there’s a notification from an app that I forgot to turn off on the AW. Too old to being easily bothered with access to myself.
Made up my mind. Just paid for a year of Whoop (thanks to Cyber Monday discount I saved about €60) and bought a normal, regular watch. Now I’m gonna be able to track all of my activity, be less dependent on Apple ecosystem and finally rock a watch that could work for my entire life. I’d say that’s a good thing.
I don’t want to but I have to admit - Windows is as buggy/crashy as it was advertised on reddit and such. My MacBook’s uptime is like 7 days and that’s because I updated it a week ago. I’m feeling happy when my Windows machine works a couple days without crash.
I don’t get why Apple Watch doesn’t do the same shit Whoop is doing. They have the same data, but Whoop is like thousand times more helpful. I tries to understand my patterns and gives me actionable advices that - seems like are good. Damn you Apple because I wanted to return that Whoop and I’m not so sure anymore.
My mother has liver cancer. We have started a fundraiser to help cover some of the treatment costs. I would be grateful for any shares or donations.
Sorry, not sorry—another iOS vs. Android thing. Basically, because I’ve changed my lifestyle over the past year—losing a lot of weight, gaining muscle, and going to the gym regularly—I find myself using my Apple Watch much more than I did, say, two years ago.
I’ve been testing Whoop, and it’s really nice, but the Apple Watch provides almost the same experience without requiring a subscription. That makes it hard for me to fully move away from the iPhone, because in the long run, the Apple Watch + iPhone combo ends up being more cost-effective.
This is never going to be not funny. Apple Music works great on Android but on the iPhone is just freaking slow.
Because I can, I’m sometimes moving between iPhone and Pixel. Most of the time it’s pixel but there are moments in which I find myself wanting to use iPhone (mostly because of Apple Watch and ability to be notified on my wrist when something REALLY IMPORTANT happens or because our apartment still has some automations based on Homekit).
But what pains me this time - I felt that notification wise I’m missing a lot on iOS. Action buttons in android notifications are golden. Somebody sends me a link? I can open it from notifications without even opening the communicator app. New YouTube video? I can just add it to watch later from notifications.
I find myself more and more saying yes to notifications on Android because I can control them better and I can easily get rid of them if needed (something that never works on iOS because you can click X and mass prune them but some of the notifications are above that X area and they won’t be deleted and I have no idea what the rule is).
That’s another one for you from my OS battles.

I wanted to break myself a bit more from Apple ecosystem with a non-Apple fitness tracker. Can’t wait till it gets here!
It looks like after stopping podcasting I have stopped caring about technology that much. Or I needed a break from it and I’m still on it. Most of the days I don’t even use my PC after work. Love this character development!
Well, it’s been over a year since I last talked about my defaults (even though I tried to update it along the way).
A lot has changed in that year, so I’m going to go over it again. To make things easier, I’m reusing the old list with previous defaults and will let you know if and how they have changed.
📨 Mail Client: Mail.app on both iOS and macOS; for work, Mimestream (Google accounts only). Because I’ve shifted most of my day-to-day activities to a Windows machine (I managed to get a BEAST with 64GB of RAM and a 4TB SSD for under $1,000), I now handle most of my mail in the browser—Fastmail in Vivaldi (personal) and Gmail in Chrome (work). On any of my devices (I use Android personally now, while my iPhone is mainly for work), I use the Fastmail and Gmail apps.
📮 Mail Server: Fastmail for personal use and Google for work. No changes here!
📝 Notes: Obsidian, Tot, and Day One. Day One is still here; I have a streak that’s about 300 days long now. For regular notes, I’ve settled on the free version of Standard Notes. When I moved away from the Apple-only ecosystem, I needed something that worked across all OSes, and Standard Notes does.
✅ To-Do: Akiflow and Things. Akiflow is still going strong; I even paid for five years of it since I’m not planning on dropping it anytime soon. I use it solely for my work calendar and tasks, and it’s made a huge difference for me. For personal tasks, I use Google Tasks. It just works: I add tasks with dates, and they show up when needed. I no longer need the complexity of something like Omnifocus, and it felt great to let go of that.
📷 Phone Camera: I previously used the Camera app on iPhone exclusively. Now, I take most of my photos with a Google Pixel 8a. The camera on the 8a is amazing, and I love having that 2x zoom button in the camera app.
🟦 Photo Management: Lightroom—still going strong! Lightroom is fantastic.
📆 Calendar: Previously used Calendar on iOS and Akiflow on Mac; now it’s Akiflow on PC and the Fastmail app on Android.
📁 Cloud File Storage: iCloud + Backblaze B2—still my go-to. I’m not using Google Drive yet, and honestly, I don’t know if I need to archive many actual files. Most of my “files” are Google Docs, Sheets, and photos. I have some archives, but it’s only a few gigs of data. I may copy it to Google Drive for access on my Pixel, but I haven’t really needed it in the past year.
📖 RSS: FreshRSS with Reeder. Since I moved to Android, I now use Read You with FreshRSS. It works well, and I don’t miss Reeder!
🙍🏻♂️ Contacts: Same as before. I use whatever is default on Android.
🌐 Browser: Arc Browser on Mac and Arc Search on iOS. Arc has gone downhill in recent months, and their Windows app never took off. I dropped Arc entirely and switched to Vivaldi. It works as well as Chrome without actually being Chrome. I don’t care as much about browsers anymore, so Vivaldi it is.
💬 Chat: Telegram, Signal, and WhatsApp—still the same, though I’d rank them differently now: Signal, WhatsApp, Telegram.
🔖 Bookmarks: Browser.
📑 Read It Later: Good Links. I’ve stopped using “read it later” tools. If I need to save something for later, I send it to myself via Signal or email. But honestly, I only did that a few times over the entire year. Another thing I let go of!
🤖 Mastodon: Previously used Ivory and IceCubes. Now, it’s mostly in the browser, and if I’m on my phone, I use Moshidon.
📖 Blog: micro.blog and Day One.
⌨️ Launcher: Raycast. I don’t use macOS that much anymore, but when I’m on my MacBook (like right now), I still use Raycast.
📜 Word Processing: Obsidian. I can’t even remember what I meant by “Word Processing” originally, but I mostly use Google Docs now.
📈 Spreadsheets: Google Sheets.
📊 Presentations: Google Slides.
🛒 Shopping Lists: Previously used Reminders; now I use Google Tasks.
💰 Budgeting and Personal Finance: YNAB.
📰 News: RSS.
🎵 Music: Spotify.
🎤 Podcasts: Pocket Casts.
🎮 Gaming: PS5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and Anbernic RG35XX.
🔐 Password Management: 1Password.
👨🏻💻 Terminal: Previously used WebSSH; now I use whatever Windows provides—usually PowerShell or something similar.
iPhone wants me to use MacOS and be enclosed in Apple ecosystem, but Android let’s me do my shit anywhere - and I didn’t know that I value this but I do.
Android apps are good enough that I don’t miss any particular app. Even if the iOS app was better, the Android version of it (either because there’s the same app for Android or there’s a different app that does the same thing) is most of the time good enough to not care because it does the job done.
And this is when I found out that Reeder can be replaced.
And today on Android I’ve installed Sum Up and now all of my chat messages get summarised. This is happening on a $300 device, for free. I have an assistant that allows me to ask even the trickiest questions and I can do stuff like circle to search.
Since I have moved onto the Pixel I find myself using Gemini a lot. I do it a couple times a day and my questions are mostly about small things. Yesterday I asked what the hell is baba ganoush, today I have asked what does “habibi” actually mean. We were picking new heaters and I wasn’t actually sure how do we calculate the wattage and it just answered me. MOST of the times I did fact-check and it was actually right!
This is a big change to my daily workflow. Because whenever something comes to my mind - I can (and I am!) ask about it and learn something new.
There are moments in which I’m missing my iPhone, sure. I do have these thoughts daily, but my sim card remains in the Pixel for about week and a half. Whenever I think about the iPhone, I remind myself that this tool has better assistant, better screen, does the same job and have OUT OF THIS WORLD notification system. And - that was new to me, seriously - these are to me worth more than iOS ecosystem? And the funny part of that is because I’ve moved from Apple to more open Google (evil, but a bit more open) - I can still access my photos and messages on my Mac. Because they are available in the web.
Crazy experience. I know we said these things about Apple, but they just figured some nice things out. You’re getting to bed and plugging up your phone? It’s getting darker and black & white, so you go to sleep instead of scrolling. Someone’s calling you and you can’t answer now? Flip your phone screen down and it will be silenced because obviously.
So, if anyone asks - I do like Pixel 8a.
After a week I’ve got used to the bigger border or fingerprint scanner (I found out that using a bit more force on it actually improved my finger readability). The only thing that right now is frustrating is the slow charging speed. Everything else is fine.
That’s my home screen after a week with Pixel 8a. My iPhone is being left, untouched since last week.
Just to add to the point of iPhone feeling more expensive/premium and 8a feeling cheaper - I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, because I feel safer and have to be less careful with Pixel. I love glass, don’t get me wrong, but iPhone with case feels chunky and without one - very slippery.
Few random thoughts about iOS vs Android:
iOS notification system is like 0.1 version of what Android has. Seriously. I’m SNOOZING one notification to come back and notify me in an hour. SNOOZING.
I feel a bit more understood by this phone. It does interesting things and is very helpful with the assistants.
I can admit that app quality is sometimes a bit worse on Android but web experience is so much better.
This phone makes sense for me even just for the camera. I’d love to get a Pro model or even just a normal one to get it even better with even better screen and then I’d just have to figure it out on Android because I love whatever it does with pictures.
I did some nighttime photography with Pixel today and it’s just amazingly good. Much much better than my iPhone. And whatever the camera did in postprocessing - would be something I’d add if it was missing. Seriously. Amazing.
I’ve just lost a 3000 words essay about Android notifications because - against my better judgement - I’ve drafted it in the browser window instead of an app and - by mistake - clicked CTRL+R.
I’ve made a note that’s basically a to-do list before fully switching to the Pixel. There are a couple of cards that don’t work in Google Pay (I have to activate them before adding to Google Pay, interestingly—I didn’t have to do this on the iPhone). Also, because we’re doing renovations and have most of our ideas in a synced photo library, I need to sync photos to Google Photos first. Once that’s done, I can switch to the Pixel, confident that nothing is missing and everything I need is on my phone.
Switching phones in 2024 isn’t easy, and that’s why I’m doing this. It shouldn’t have to be so complicated.
Another thing I’m a fan of - Spotify is downloading songs in the background. I don’t have to set up my phone’s display to never turn off to sync everything I want to offline.
What pisses me off now is that this phone costs like $250. And it has 120hz, always on display. And go have it on iPhone you have to get the pro.
A long time ago it was a known fact that iPhone is the best device to use with Google apps. And now I must say it just makes sense to get into android if you’re into Google services. Google Maps integration is just better here that it could be in iPhone (thanks Apple Maps). And there are multiple instances of things like that. Im not instantly becoming an Android user or a big fan but this journey will be even more interesting that I anticipated.
120hz is awesome. And this phone costs less than my current iPhone 14! Coming back to iPhone even for a second just feels bad now. That was quick.
My main SIM card is on Pixel 8a. I’ve moved my signal account and WhatsApp account there as well. I’m not getting rid of the iPhone because I want to sync my Apple Watch (that was just degraded to be a fitness watch) but I’m giving it a real shot.
And after my first day - well, half of it - I must say things are going great. It just works. Like a phone. With apps. Couple hiccups here and there but nothing that wouldn’t be solved quickly.
In my defence - I was as JUST below my comfort level for a device I wanted to toy with for a very long time. Let’s see how it goes!
My Ivory subscription ended and I’ve switched to Ice Cubes. Honestly, not a very big difference which I think is a great thing for Ice Cubes. Also I can see that Ivory is a Tweetbot morphed into Mastodon client because Ice Cubes have more Mastodon-related features.
I’d love to buy an iPod, mod it to have 1TB of storage, and listen to music from it instead of paying for Spotify or Apple Music. However, the challenge of downloading, buying, and even finding the songs I love is making this very difficult to do.
I want to have ChatGPT integration in most of the things unfortunately. Because, honestly, it works for me
Signal wishlist:
Spotify’s daylist is something different. I haven’t been that understood by a piece of music-related software. Honestly, it’s always on point and the suggestions are always wild (but good wild). But in terms of being understood by a piece software, recently I’ve made multiple changes to automations working in our home due to finally having time to sit down and take a peak into what Home Assistant allows. And since then I had thoughts like “it’s getting too hot” or “it’s getting too dark” and at - literally at this second, HA turned on a thing because it became exactly too hot or too dark.
Doing buttons, clicking them to do a thing is obviouisly an upgrade from manually doing things, but I think I finally understood what does it mean to have “the smart home”. My current approach is that whenever something happens or just annoys me (or the wifey) - I try to either make automation at this moment or I write down what happened and what could happen. Also now I get why would I buy light sensors, air quality sensors and - most importantly - occupancy sensors. Having that additional information about room being occupied is great. Even for that simple “room is occupied == true” condition.
I saw someone posting that they wanted to switch to Android but because they don’t want to think about tech they will buy iPhone. Again. If that’s you I have a tip - you don’t have to buy new phone. You can use whatever you have, it’s probably enough.
It’s actually nice to live in a world where I don’t care about new iPhones. I know, I’m repeating myself, but this is a new thing for me and I’m trying to cherish every moment.
Last year’s iPhone 15 and this year’s iPhone 16 make me feel good about getting that Android phone. At this point - seriously - I’m waiting for a discount for either Pixel 8a or 8. I want to spend about $400 or less for one of these and I’m going to be golden. Seriously, I want to prove (mostly to myself) that great phones with great capabilties can be cheap enough. There’s no way in hell I’m ever going to spend $1000 and more for a phone. And thanks to our new flat - I don’t even need an iPhone to control it because of OS-agnostic Home Assistant. The only thing that is still keeping me glued to iOS is Apple Watch, but maybe I should just get that Garmin and call it a day? I’ll definitely miss the UI and watchfaces but I think I can manage with some mid-end Garmin that can show me the temperature and calendar event. These are interesting times, seriously. Even though not much is exciting for me in the news - the lack of this external excitement is actually making me excited about big moves.
Thanks Apple not really interested. Wojtek told me about event happening because I wasn’t even aware that it is happening today. 😂
Fortnite is great, but Epic Games Stores app on Windows is abysmal. Not sure if I’ve ever used slower software than this.
Telegram clearly fails to meet this stronger definition for a simple reason: it does not end-to-end encrypt conversations by default. If you want to use end-to-end encryption in Telegram, you must manually activate an optional end-to-end encryption feature called “Secret Chats” for every single private conversation you want to have. The feature is explicitly not turned on for the vast majority of conversations, and is only available for one-on-one conversations, and never for group chats with more than two people in them. Source: blog.cryptographyengineering.com/2024/08/2…
I’m trying very hard to move away from Telegram. I’ve already switched some conversations to iMessage, and I’m trying to get my wife to stick with Signal (though it lacks some crucial features for us). We’ll see how things go in a month. Ideally, I’d like to move everything to Signal or a combination of Signal and iMessage, but right now, I’m torn between Telegram, Signal, iMessage, and WhatsApp.
WhatsApp is something I won’t be able to fully get rid of—our entire family uses it, and since it’s encrypted, that’s sufficient for now (I’m aware of the metadata issues, but that’s okay for the moment). iMessage will stick around since I’ll be using iPhones for the foreseeable future. I don’t want to feel forced to use it, especially since I also use Windows and Linux, but it’s not a dealbreaker.
Life was easier when I didn’t care about Telegram’s encryption and privacy issues. Eh. EH.
Now I’m sitting and thinking if there’s anything I forgot to move from Windows to Linux (even though I didn’t “move”, I just installed it side by side and everything on Windows is still there). Also Windows is here to stay since I can’t play Warzone on Linux, so I will have to use Windows too and that’s fine. I just don’t want to use Windows everyday.
Tomorrow wil be my first day of using Linux only for Work. Not sure if it’s gonna work out but let’s see. I can always boot into Windows if needed.
Holy fuck.
In a pitch deck to prospective customers, one of Facebook’s alleged marketing partners explained how it listens to users' smartphone microphones and advertises to them accordingly.
Threads are fine in terms of being integrated with ActivityPub, but holy shit if this isn’t an engagement hell. Because I see how this app tries to hook me in I can’t (and will not) use it.
I’ve been tracking calories for about six weeks now, and it’s both obvious and interesting that whenever my macros lean heavily towards carbs, I end up eating more than on days with a higher protein intake.
On its 10th anniversary, Signal’s president wants to remind you that the world’s most secure communications platform is a nonprofit. It’s free. It doesn’t track you or serve you ads. It pays its engineers very well. And it’s a go-to app for hundreds of millions of people.
I’d even wish it was Chrome but I don’t trust them at all. Brave probably, maybe Arc if they sort out their Windows app. This would be great, to not care about system at all but be able to do everything I need in just a web browser.
Good thing I’ve bought that powerful PC with lots of RAM. I’m gonna need it.
I’d actually love to have all of my life in a web browser. Just that. The web browser. Maybe this is something I should explore more? It’s definitely doable. Or is it?
I’d love to buy myself an Android phone and my wife even said that I should go for it, but I can’t, yet. I’m gonna wait for someone to finally add something like MagSafe (Qi2?) so I can use my wallet and powerbanks. And then I’m gonna change my watch from Apple Watch to something more system agnostic (Garmin?).
Only then, with wife’s blessing, I can buy an Android phone and feel like I’m not just putting money on fire.
Was just listening the Arc podcast (the one about browser) and it’s fascinating that Stripe entire work-stack will be enterprise Chrome only. That’s bold but also VERY interesting.
There’s a good and bad part to it. Good part is that I’m going to just move everything to new, HomeAssistant-only server. Bad part - I’ve got to do it. I have to do “the thing”.
Next time I’m going to consider using RPi4 on something I use everyday just kick me in the head. My old HA setup (that I’m using in current apartment) just broke.
Even though MTG:Arena is not available on Linux it just worked without any modifications just by clicking a checkbox on Steam. This is wild!
New SSD just came in. Ubuntu is already installed. The only issue is that my keyboard doesn’t work nicely with Ubuntu because it’s Magic Whatever Apple Keyboard. I might just get the Logitech MX thing.
I switched to Apple Music a long time ago, but I still use Spotify (and right now, it’s my “main” platform) because finding new music is MUCH easier on Spotify. The “Made for You” playlists are full of either songs I already love or tracks I haven’t heard before but would love to discover.
Also, I’m not sure if anyone at Apple actually uses Apple Music on different devices. It doesn’t matter if I’m on an iPhone, M1 Mac, or Windows machine—on every device, it’s a mess. It freezes, takes forever to load… It just doesn’t work. Spotify, on the other hand, works perfectly fine. It loads instantly, always plays music without issues, and the search function gives me relevant results. How did Apple mess this up so badly?
It started to feel bad to be so deep in Apple ecosystem when I see their greedy behaviour. They’re corporation, sure, but it didn’t feel that bad before.
Ordered 512GB SSD to put Linux on. Two systems on one machine it is. I’m wondering which one I’m actually going to use more!
Oh, I figured it out. I’ve got couple of SATA disks laying around and I can connect additional two to my PC. I’m gonna get them one of them connected and buy another SSD. So one SSD and one HDD for Linux!
Ok, so wspanialy.eu is unfucked, finally. Everything is set up in place (new server, backup scripts, etc. etc. etc.). Now I can rest. Damn.
Fucked up badly with Wspanialy.eu. Working on getting it back, thank god for daily backups! It will take me some time to get it unfucked.
Today I was already deep into the rabbit hole of getting Ubuntu working on my PC instead of Windows but I think my setup should be more bold. Not Windows on SSD and Linux on HDD but Linux on SSD with Windows VMs. That’s the way to go.
I had Pixel 9 Pro in my basket and now you tell me that most of the AI features aren’t available in Poland? What? The Pixel Screenshot, Magic Library Thingy, Call Notes, what the hell. I mean, I don’t care about Call Notes or Magic Library (I have no idea how it’s called, it’s the thing that draws using AI), but Pixel Screenshot? Seriously?
Last couple of weeks my Windows started crashing so I’m seriously thinking about putting Linux on that machine.
I’m not great with light packing unfortunately and each holiday was me packing up - apart from a phone - a laptop, nintendo switch, two cameras, etc. And in the next couple of weeks there’s another trip coming right up and I’m gonna fight myself and pack very lightly. No laptop, no nintendo switch, just my phone, one (smaller!) camera and gameboy. That’s it. And it’s gonna be a bit hard for me but this is the only way I’m going to force myself to just disconnect and chill out.

I’m kind of broken in different ways, one of these ways is that the water I drink HAS TO BE cold. Still, sparkling, doesn’t matter - cold.
🍿 Burnt (2015) - ★★☆☆☆
That was bad, really bad. The only good thing was the food, but the rest of it is terrible.

When I start to think about all of this, I wonder: do I trust Apple? Google? Microsoft? Anyone? As I delve deeper into this rabbit hole, I consider installing Linux on my PC, moving “off-grid” in terms of FAANG services, and self-hosting everything. Then I think about the sheer effort involved in doing that. One day, it will happen, but for now, it’s one service at a time. Mail is semi-done with Fastmail. Next will be smart home stuff (the new apartment will have HomeAssistant first), and then maybe photo backup (looking at you, Ente). It sucks to have to think about and do all of this.
Making Vivaldi look like I want (like Chrome lol) is hard and some of my chrome extensions aren’t working. Brave it is. That was a quick one.
Suddenly Brave and Vivaldi on my PC are breaking up websites. CSS just goes wonky. I wonder if/when that would be fixed (the websites are working perfectly fine on either Firefox or Google Chrome).
“She resumed payments for databases and software that helped the company detect and remove child sexual exploitation material. And, at one of the company’s international offices, she settled an unpaid heating bill. Before that, employees wore jackets indoors and tried to heat the space using a kitchen pizza oven.”
Sometimes I put my phone in a case (it’s 99% of the time the dbrand grip case because it’s just too good and too grippy not to use it) and my phone usage changes. When it’s in the case it feels more like a tool, but when I take it out of the case it’s just a nicely designed object. I fidget with naked phone much more than I do with a grippy case. Interesting observation. Today it is in a case, but on the weekend it’s going to be a case off situation. This was a post about me using a case sometimes. I do think about such things too much.
It feels funny to have HomeAssistant set up and ready for a new flat… without actually having done ANYTHING in that flat. But I’m gonna be ready when the time comes!
That’s the issue with PC’s that can’t be moved easily - it’s too hot for me to sit in the office and I had to move out to the living room (because it has AC) and now I’m on my old (M1) Mac. Also - this Mac works perfectly fine but get’s hot when under heavy load. I still love it though.
🍿 Chef (2014) - ★★★☆☆ Too much of a cliche. Heartwarming, but cliche.

Don’t trust the big companies, if the spreadsheet says it’s no longer profitable, you’re gonna be fucked. And in the very end - you WILL BE at some point.
God damn, I’m becoming more and more open-web evangelist. And all I really, really want is just to use the thing I like.
It’s easier to jump Chromium ship on Mac - there’s Safari. But on Windows? I don’t want to think about getting to Firefox because they have started making bad decisions and I think this trend will (unfortunately) continue.
I’m fortunate enough to have the means and skills to provide services for people, for free, such as a Mastodon or FreshRSS instance. Currently, I’m considering launching another completely free service. I’m gravitating towards either Pixelfed or Writefreely. Pixelfed would be more labor-intensive but would likely attract more users. Writefreely, on the other hand, would be much easier and cheaper (not only in terms of labor), but I’m unsure how many people are interested in having a blog.
Telegram going more and more crypto route makes me anxious about its future. Also signal is better and I know that one day this will be my default.
Being off Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter sometimes makes me feel like I’m missing out on something, like being there would make me happier or more connected. But then I realize that I’m not feeling unhappy or disconnected. Even more, I feel much, much better after getting rid of things that made me glued to my phone. It just feels too good to use them; they can’t be beneficial to my mental health if they feel so dopamine-inducing.
It’s Friday, so of course I’d love to stay up for an insane amount of time just to read ALL of the internet.

🍿 Challengers (2024) - ★★★★☆

If I ever have to ditch Arc, I’ll move to Brave because it’s the only browser that works exactly as I expect. Chrome isn’t it, Firefox doesn’t always work (and the iOS app is really bad), and Vivaldi is just too much to make it like Brave or Chrome. This is where I’m at. Also, I’m using Chrome exclusively for work stuff, and there are literally no issues (apart from it sending all my data to Google instead of keeping it private).
The only thing that is really missing from CMF Phone 1 is NFC. Other than that - I could manage. This price is unbeatable.
Because of how time and plans work I might be able to do something with that social.ovh domain in about two weeks but I already can’t wait!
Thinking about spinning up another Mastodon instance (just cause I like it!) and bought a great domain for it - atweb.blog. I mean - it definitely FEELS cool.
If you’re a media outlet and you’re not hosting your own social media instance (whatever it could be - Mastodon, Pixelfed, anything that federates) you’re doing it wrong. I personally refuse to use content services hosted by 3rd party (or for free) because I don’t want them to mess with my content. Even though most of my content is me whining about internets.
The design of our next apartment isn’t about being meticulously planned, but I can share a playlist with you that will perfectly capture the atmosphere we want. Each song will embody the exact vibe of our future home.
People who drink Caffeine-Free, Diet Coke: Why? What are you getting out of it at that point?
I just like the taste and it’s not making me unable to sleep at night. Also cola with sugar tastes bad.
I have some BTC that I wanted to transfer from one wallet to another… show me the person who said this is the future of money that takes 5 HOURS to transfer between accounts.
There are days when I hate that I picked up iPhone 14 Plus instead of regular one but whenever I’m watching something or trying to squeeze as much as I can from it’s battery I’m always happy that I did. This screen is amazing, keyboard feels great and battery life is fantastic.
But next one will be smaller. 🫣
Every now and then it comes back to me how amazing Mastodon and all of the other open platforms are. You can literally spin up a server on your own PC and host YOUR OWN STUFF for everyone. And if you can’t - there are thousands of servers hosted by people like me who just love doing it. 2003 vibes.
Apple Music works better on Windows than it works on my Mac. I’m wondering why - is it because I’ve got 4x RAM on Windows? Better CPU? Whatever it is I hope some day Apple Music on Mac will look and work as fast as Spotify does.
I want my blog to have an app because I’ve grown accustomed to quickly sending tweets in the last decade. Currently, I have CMD+CTRL+OPTION+T set as a shortcut to open Mars Edit’s new microblog window.
Whatever comes has to be as good as this is.
I’ve got no Facebook, Instagram, now TikTok is out. What I’m gonna do when I pick my phone up out of habit? RSS? Getting old.
This dog loves to smoke cigarettes and when I say smoke cigarettes I mean keeping a bone in her mouth.
I love all these new fitness features for Apple Watch but honestly this WWDC was underwhelming. Another one, because for the last couple of years WWDC is showing underwhelming features that are either undercooked, available on Android for the past 10 years or just straight up unusable if you’re not in US. Thanks Apple?
I’d love to use Arc on Windows but then I’m using Chrome on Windows (for work) and it works like thousand times faster and then I don’t want to use Arc anymore. I wish they would make Arc suck less.
Also I’m not installing any betas on my devices, I’m good. Very happy with having a functioning phone for the last couple of years and hope this tradition continues.
To use Siri that’s not dumb you have to spend at least $1000 because it’s not dumb only on iPhone 15 Pro. Holy shit, it works nicely but making it work only on the most expensive phone is shitty even for them.
“They say it’s the ‘me’ generation. It’s not. The arrogance is taught, or it was cultivated. It’s self-conscious. That’s what it is. It’s conscious of self. Social media - it’s just the market’s answer to a generation that demanded to perform, so the market said, here - perform. Perform everything to each other, all the time, for no reason. It’s prison - it’s horrific. It’s performer and audience melded together. What do we want more than to lie in our bed at the end of the day and just watch our life as a satisfied audience member. I know very little about anything. But what I do know is that if you can live your life without an audience, you should do it.” ― Bo Burnham
After a month of going to the gym I can finally see some nice changes in our bodies. Main one is that I’m not in pain anymore and I have more energy, but also I can see that my arms and legs got a bit… bigger? Anyway, love it, love the progress, gym is here to stay apparently!
With Spotify raising prices in USA (again!) I’m thinking that raise of prices in Poland is inevitable and if they raise them again I don’t think I’d like to pay for it anymore especially when it is Apple-mostly household and we do pay for Apple One with Apple Music included.
Things are getting more expensive and - finally - it is time to cut on some unnecessary subscriptions.
There’s a pretty big thing going on right now that I can’t share yet but if we can pull this off this will be UNREAL move. Please keep fingers crossed but things are looking better than I thought!
O, this is VERY interesting.
Daylight Computer: https://daylightcomputer.com/
Fucking hell, this is some kind of different shit, I have to set up everything from scratch because TWO of my backups aren’t really working. What a pain in the ass. I’m actually ditching most of the HA goodies and going back into Home.app for whatever I can. Just because it worked BETTER. It was slower - yes, but it wasn’t dying out of the blue.
Why I’ve connected new HDD to dietpi setup? Because of magic my setup just blew up, I’ve got backups, but it’s 1:30 AM and I can’t turn my lights off. Holy fuck this is my smart home nightmare.
I think I might enjoy using iPad Pro as my mobile computing device of choice but there’s no way in hell I’m buying that with my own money.
Holy fuck, Microsoft Edge added live opened tabs sync and it works SO FUCKING FAST. Thanks, I’m moving to Edge immediately on my Mac and PC.
Without a story behind them I’ll try and list all of the phones I had.
Crazy run.
I don’t care about updated iPads as long as they didn’t update the mini. Justice for iPad mini, please update it to the M1 or whatever.
Dear diary, today my Sonos just blew up and I had to reconnect everything. Apart from that Aqara cameras were disappearing every couple minutes from home app but I did unfuck that as well. Today was a good day.
I know what I said about having Arc on Windows but it’s also the buggiest and slowest browser I’ve ever used.
I adore it when my Aqara camera randomly disconnects from HomeKit, forcing me to re-bind it to the system. It’s moments like these that truly make me appreciate the dependability of these cameras. Fucking hell…
Bought myself an app called Tusks that basically makes writing threads/longposts on Mastodon really easy. If you’re into that - highly recommended.
I’m currently in micro.blog-first scenario but I see myself leaving everything and moving to my own Mastodon server, so having Tusks available is great.
After getting Arc Sync on Windows (with all the cool stuff like extensions and favorites), I’m totally hooked on Arc. It’s smooth sailing on my Mac and iOS, and not too shabby on Windows either.
No other browser syncs tabs, and as someone who switches between Mac and Windows, I need that to keep my sanity intact. I use my MacBook Air on the go and my big ol' desktop PC for work or chilling at home. I come across interesting reads on all three devices, and with Arc Sync, I can just pin them as tabs and access them wherever I am, no matter the device.
It might sound a bit crazy to care so much about a browser, but after going through the multi-OS journey, I’ve really come to appreciate having my tabs synced up. Arc is the only browser that truly gets it right, unlike Brave, Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and the rest, which just show what’s on other devices without the real sync magic.
It all started just like Dropbox - wanting a folder that syncs across devices. Now, I want a browser that does the same. It’s mind-blowing to think that no one thought of this before Arc.
My own Ian Knot (yes – I’m the inventor) is the World’s Fastest Shoelace Knot. Source.
What. I’m gonna do it from now on!
Fucked up my home setup today but thanks to home assistant unfucking was pretty easy. Also - the only things that are missing from HA are thermostats (Eve Thermo is not really playing nice with HA), Nanoleaf Essential bulb (I hate it, can’t wait to change it to something more HA friendly) and my set of cameras. But I don’t think there’s a way to have cameras in HomeKit security camera whatever and home assistant.
I’m gonna change this Nanoleaf one day but changing thermostats is going to be pain in the ass especially because they do work great and finding something that will be as quiet (they are not really quiet but quiet enough) and work nicely with HA is a couple hundred $ and I’m not really looking for a new place to spend money.
Added blogroll to my blog, not really done with it but at least it’s here.

Simply because, if I could ever bring myself to break out of Apple’s walled garden, I would want to steer clear of anything similar. I wouldn’t want to just replace everything Apple with everything Google, for example. Source: https://chrishannah.me/micro/2024-04-26-00-30/
That’s why I’m trying to get out of this walled garden.
Yeah but Arc just dropped Sidebar Sync for Mobile too and now it just makes sense to use Arc because - apparently - it’s the only browser that keeps whatever tabs you have open between devices and operating systems. Bonkers.
I have an itch to create an app. A Mastodon client. I’m gonna start fresh either way but I’m wondering on which platform should I start. I’m using iPhone everyday but I’m thinking about moving to Android sometime soon and there isn’t anything for Mastodon that I’d like to use so I might as well try to make something I’d like to use when on Android. Decisions decisions.
But I think Android is a better way right now. Especially because I’m gonna work on it on my Windows PC, so it would be easier to do it natively for Android. And when I’m gonna do an app that I love, it’s gonna be easier for me to switch fully to green robots.
I spent a couple hours during the weekend looking at my read-it-later queue and I’ve found out two things: I’ve saved LOTS of articles during the pandemic, about the pandemic, that are irrelevant four years later. And most of the stuff that I’ve saved pre-pandemic is not relevant after/during the pandemic.
I am rethinking my RSS reading and read-it-later reading flow and I think I’d like to move to Readwise but paying $100 per year to read my stuff is CRAZY. Plain crazy. Currently it costs me nothing, so I think it’s not going to happen.
My existence largely revolves around transferring my saved bookmarks from one browser to another and from one read-it-later service to another. Rinse and repeat.
After two months of being on windows I’m starting to think about installing / at least virtualising Linux alongside Windows. Mostly because of all of this Windows related bloatware. I’m worried about games because I love playing games, so that’s why I’m thinking of virtualising Linux. I’ve got enough CPU, ram and GPU to use both at the same time.
First emulators are coming to iOS! iGBA is available but please don’t download it yet since it’s stolen code from an open source code with added ads and tracking. But other than that - it works if you want it to (and plays games perfectly fine).
My blogs folder on freshrss is the only one that goes bonkers because bloggers are the only people that will mess with their blogs and - for example - re-release all of their 1000s notes to RSS.
I was grandfathered into some kind of Day One Plus (that basically gives me everything that Premium does apart from custom icons and ability to add more than 10 pics and attaching videos) and finally pulled the trigger to get into Day One Premium. After 113 days I think I’m hooked.
Oh, look! The best shoes are currently on sale, highly recommended. These are THE ONLY shoes I’m purchasing. I’ve had the green ones for 4 years now and just acquired new ones, retiring the old pair.
Is there this big Android community just as big as there is Apple community? I’d like to follow more people from Android world to see new apps and stuff like that.
Coincidentally, I’ve managed to save up some spare change that would enable me to make the purchase today and get the Pixel 8, but I’m choosing to be patient and wait for the Pixel 8a. May 10-ish can’t come soon enough.
Yesterday I’ve connected most of the things I was able to connect to Home Assistant without the dongle. Even though not much has changed I’ve grouped all of the lights in each room so now I have buttons to turn on/off lights in each room individually quite easily!
I pulled the trigger last night and purchased a dongle for Home Assistant, which enables me to connect directly with Thread/Matter/Zigbee, along with a very affordable Zigbee-enabled sensor. I believe this signifies my transition from Apple HomeKit to a more platform-agnostic system. I’m here for it.
🍿 Madame Web (2024) - ★★★★★

My work is not physically demanding (hey, I sit at the computer for 8 hours), but the first thing that starts to suffer is my voice. After a few hours of meetings, by the end of the day, my voice always gives out.
The only way I feel comfortable using my large phone (14 Plus) is with the dbrand grip case. It’s extremely grippy and sturdy, so even if I drop it, I’m confident it will withstand the impact.
I contemplated on smaller iPhone test but I cannot. SE can’t use two esims at the same time and my personal & work sim cards are esims. Bummer! I liked the idea of a really, really small phone again.
Got my wife’s SE (2 gen) and I’m thinking of an experiment of using a smaller phone (than my 14 Plus). I’m definitely going to miss my big phone camera and keyboard but I’m really considering going all in.
A couple months ago an Asian Market place opened in the neighbourhood and they serve THE BEST Asian food I had in a while. Menu is small - mostly pho and bahn mi but whatever you get you’ll be surprised how good it is.
I need more photographers in my feed, like - really good ones to get better with my pics. Do you have anything that you look at frequently? I don’t care about the genre, I need good photography.
Thinking about moving from Obsidian to Evernote because Evernote has better UI and works better on Android (without Obsidian Sync, and if I have to pay I can pay for Evernote as well as for Obsidian). Why shouldn’t I do it?
The very thing that makes the Fediverse special—the ability to seamlessly cross a platform boundary and talk with one another—relies on striving to keep things as open as possible. An open network fulfills the promise of an open internet. Open is good. Open lets ideas flow, it lets people share cat pics and express love for one another, and it helps us to learn. Meta may be awful, but the Fediverse is neither for nor about them—it’s about empowering our friends and families to connect even if we’re using different software or services. Clap emoji, clap emoji, clap emoji. That’s why wspanialy.eu ISN’T blocking anything. You can block threads if you want to, but the server itself isn’t blocking Threads.
I wish I started doing my smart-home in Home Assistant. It’s now just a pain in the ass and lot’s of money to dig out of this Apple-only hole.
I love that Threads are federating. Ability to read people and not use Threads is great. I can read people who have no idea what mastodon is - on mastodon!
Exclusive: Google Pixel 8a boasts 120Hz display, Tensor G3, DisplayPort output, better availability
Just release it already, I can’t wait for it. I know what I said about renting out a phone being cheaper but if this is going to be as cheap as I think it is and will have this long support (like 7 years or whatever) I might just get this to have Pixel with long support - even if I want to change it later for either an iPhone or just different android phone. If this would cost 1,5k PLN (about $375) and would be available from Google in Poland officially - I’m gonna just impulse buy it immediately after it’s available.
Arc added Sidebar Sync to their app. Finally it’s usable on Windows! Moved from Brave to Arc. I can use it on all of my devices now!
Seems like our online Ikea shopping spree was a success! Not only is the new mattress GREAT, but - by mistake! - we ended up buying not 4 small towels, but 4 sets of 4 small towels (I even intended to get 7 and overlooked that it’s a multipack). Awesome!
Google Gemini Advanced offers 2TB storage for ~$25/month (like ChatGPT Plus). Tempting, but currently it’s browser-only in Poland - no mobile app yet. Meh, I wish they added mobile app in Poland - I’d actually think about using it instead of ChatGPT then.
Found out that I can subscribe to having an iPhone (or Android phone) for a year for about $45 per month. And then after 12 months I’m either buying it cheaper, giving it back or exchanging it for a newer model. It’s actually interesting idea, paying $45 per month just to have the newest phone without actually the hassle of buying one every year and selling too. I’m debating with myself if this is something I would like to experience but it doesn’t seem dumb.
I was really close to pulling on the trigger and getting an Android phone but I think I want to see what Google does with Pixel 8a and if Nothing comes up with Phone 3. S24 makes the most sense right now but I think I could spend less and get something as nice.
Mountainhead from Everything Everything is beautiful. Very sad and painful but beautiful. Can’t stop listening to it.
I want to witness a big move from iOS to Android. I’m here for it, who’s gonna do it first? What phones people will be getting?
Apple terminated Epic’s developer account.
Honestly seeing what apple does and how they are managing this need to be compliant with European law is just making me consider becoming more system-agnostic (and in the end - probably less apple dependant). Now it’s definitely a good thing that I’ve bought PC. Considering a Pixel phone is - I think - a step in right direction too, unfortunately. Great job Apple!
Uh, new Nothing Phone (2a) comes out to 1449 pln (about $365). It’s MUCH LESS than Pixel and just enough for me to consider it to have as a toy with Android… Wife tells me to just get Pixel 8 but this 2a is like 50% cheaper and - in this case of getting an Android phone to fuck around and find out - I like cheaper.
A couple of months ago, I posted My Defaults and My Software EDC, but that was when I was in an Apple-only ecosystem. Since then, I’ve bought my first PC in 15 years that I love and adore and use every day. There’s no way I’m going to ditch my MacBook Air for something that has Windows on it (Apple machines are of better quality and I love macOS on laptops), but I think on desktop, Windows is working actually really, really well.
Let’s start with the defaults first, and then I’m going to provide you with some more content regarding my software EDC because that has to change a lot since I’m on Windows more than I’m on macOS.
📨 Mail Client: I use Fastmail for personal use and Gmail for work. Therefore, on iOS, I use mail.app + Gmail, on macOS I use browsers only, and on Windows, I use a browser only too.
📮 Mail Server: Fastmail for personal use, Google for Work.
📝 Notes: Obsidian and Tot for quick notes, but I’m moving my quick notes more and more to…
✅ To-Do: Microsoft To Do! It’s quick, easy, multi-platform, and costs nothing. It isn’t Things, but it works pretty well for me. For work, I’m using Akiflow because it combines tasks with a calendar.
📷 iPhone Photo Shooting: Camera.app, but I’m using Canon G5X Mark II and Sony A6000 for photography more.
🟦 Photo Management: Lightroom + Photos in iCloud.
📆 Calendar: Calendar on iOS, Akiflow on Windows and Mac.
📁 Cloud File Storage: iCloud + Backblaze B2.
📖 RSS: FreshRSS + Reeder on iOS/Mac and browser/Fluent Reader for Windows. I’m trying to use Fluent Reader, but my brain doesn’t work the way Fluent Reader works, so I’m using the iPhone more for RSS.
🙍🏻♂️ Contacts: Contacts.
🌐 Browser: Arc isn’t yet available for Windows (at least for me), so I’m using Arc Search on iOS, and then Microsoft Edge for personal browsing on macOS + Windows and Chrome for work.
💬 Chat: Telegram, Signal, WhatsApp, Slack.
🔖 Bookmarks: Browser.
📑 Read It Later: Good Links, but since it’s not on Windows, I’m going to have to find some alternatives (I’m not really reading the stuff I’m putting there, so maybe I just shouldn’t bother).
📜 Word Processing: Obsidian.
🤖 Mastodon: Ivory on Apple-things and browser on Windows.
📖 Blog: micro.blog and Day One.
📈 Spreadsheets: Google Thing.
📊 Presentations: Google Thing.
🛒 Shopping Lists: My wife and I just send each other messages about what to get.
💰 Budgeting and Personal Finance: YNAB.
🎵 Music: Spotify (but I do have an Apple Music sub that’s just there).
🎤 Podcasts: Pocket Casts.
🎮 Gaming: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and Anbernic RG35XX.
🔐 Password Management: 1Password.
👨🏻💻 Terminal: WebSSH on iOS/macOS and Hyper on Windows.
Now onto my software EDC:
Let’s start with the first custom thing here because the rest of it isn’t interesting.
The things that you weren’t able to see but they are here:
That’s it - my defaults and EDC in one long entry. I hope that makes it easier for people to see what apps they could use, especially when they’re on Windows. If you have any questions or recommendations, just shout!
One day I’m gonna come back with my defaults and my software EDC now that I’m on Windows because being on Mac is easy - you just use Apple stuff or the same apps that are on Mac and on iOS but adding Windows to the mix - that makes things interesting!
Windows might make me more open to giving Android another try, but there’s no comparable alternative to the Apple Watch on Android, which is a downside (especially since I’m now actively engaged in sports and rely on these fitness tracking features).
Windows on my PC is working great. I love that I am able to play games in my spare time, but what I love the most is that I’ve got LOTS and LOTS of CPU and RAM to use. I can open every single thing I want to have opened, and there are literally zero issues. In terms of a mental shift, I believe that Windows/PC is definitely going to be THE OS to use on the desktop, but there is no way I might use a Windows laptop. Therefore, I think that Windows-desktop-PC and Mac-laptop-mobile is the way to go for me now.
Since becoming a Windows user I’m trying to move from Apple-only apps to cross-platform and it’s actually going pretty well? The only thing I’m seriously missing is Things but Microsoft Todo (especially being free!) is actually a pretty good alternative to Things.
I’m using Spotify after a full year of Apple Music. I do have a set of pretty good headphones to listen to good quality music but Spotify recommendations are hard to beat. They’re just too good to pass on. I do romance with Apple Music still, though. On the other hand it has quality that’s just unavailable on Spotify and I hear it. 😤
He ended his talk with a slide showing a huge QR code, which got a laugh.
“Anybody holding up a camera?” Joyce asked. “Who’s gonna [photograph] the QR code from the NSA guy?”
Bought some colorful binders for MTG cards and seems like I’ve got a nice backdrop for photos now? These are not great obviously but it’s a good start and with some magic called postproduction they might look good!

This is what I’m gonna tell myself everyday to feel better oh look squirrel!
That’s just my first day on Windows PC BUT… it works fine? I guess there’s not much that annoyed me or drastically changed the way I think/work? It definitely feels weird to work on something that makes noise (quiet one, but noise nonetheless). Also feels weird to do everything I did on Mac and then see that I’m using only 25% of CPU and 30% of RAM. My RAM usage currently is higher than my Mac had RAM available. Overall, after one day - I’m glad I pulled the trigger.
Thought about doing Pawel.69 but it’s gonna be easier at work if I’m not gonna have the ~sex number~ in my username.
Signal » Blog » Keep your phone number private with Signal usernames
Huh their take is actually very, very good. Usernames just as a way to contact someone without phone number and you can change your username and then nobody can link it to your phone number? Brilliant.
Is there a #Beluga alternative? I like how it works (and how it’s designed) but it’s only one man thing and I’m not 100% sure it’s here to stay. (Also the app is so-so without support for proper desktop, etc)
It’s going to be refreshing to use a device without a battery. Counting days till it’s here! Wednesday can’t come soon enough.
Because new PC is coming on Wednesday, today is a day I’m gonna move shit around in the office to make space for it. This also means that one of the consoles (probably Xbox) is making its way back to the living room. PS5 and PC will be in the office while Nintendo Switch with Xbox will be in the living room. Pretty fire setup I think. I’m gonna play more PS5 games I think (and if I want to play Xbox games they might be available on PC) so it makes sense to leave it in the office where I can’t bother wife with occupying a TV.
The Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has died in jail, the country’s prison service has said, in what is likely to be seen as a political assassination attributable to Vladimir Putin.Source: Russian activist and Putin critic Alexei Navalny dies in prison | Alexei Navalny | The Guardian
I’m not saying it wasn’t expected but it was unexpected.
I will be able to play games! This is going to be crazy. Also with 64GB of ram I might be able to have SEVEN tabs in Chrome!
Next two weeks might be crazy so I’m gonna order a PC in about a week so it will come after all that craziness. I’m actually really interested in how it is gonna go. I’m ordering a proper PC (without getting rid of my MacBook Air) because to get a Mac that allows me to play games I’d have to spend two times more than I’m gonna pay for this PC. And honestly - there’s literally no way in hell I’m gonna pay for a computer $2-3k. It’s just not right to pay this amount of money for it.
And this PC I’m gonna get will have like 2TB of SSD, 64GB of RAM and some top-of-the-line CPU and GPU. In an Apple ecosystem that would be insane amount of money.
It is also interesting that 10-15 years ago when I was using Windows there were apps for everything and nowadays it looks more like a desert. On other hand though - everything is a website these days, so I’m not sure if that’s even an issue?
High chance of me actually buying a proper PC (that I can always use to VNC into my mac if needed). I think it’s going to be interesting considering I’m thinking about getting an absolute beast of a PC (you know, these CPU numbers are big and there’s like lots of RAM so it has to be good).
And to think that I’m doing that to play Magic: The Gathering Arena without issues… (that’s only half true, I’d like to be able to do other stuff too).
[someone makes Mastodon to Bluesky bridge with the federation and open protocols]
Mastodon stans: “No, not like that!”
Sometimes I don’t get people. You wanted an open network, right? Right? Eh.
Also, I’m on a photo too! Unfortunately I got a bit chubby during my stay (food was too good to pass on) but I’ve fortunately already lost whatever I’ve gained there. But here is my face! Also - from now on - I’m Mr Snack.
Also I’m pretty sure a little bit of that chubbyness comes from that wide-angle lens I’ve used most of the time. This was shot without auto-focus. I told you I’m good!
Just to add to my last post with pictures from Tenerife. These are all fully digital shots taken with:
All of them were instantly transferred to my iPhone, and post-production was done in Lightroom on the iPhone. I used some analog-like presets that I have collected over the past couple of years.
There will be some analog pictures as well, but I haven’t had the chance to send them to the lab yet, so it will take me a moment.
If I were to go on that trip again, I would definitely stick with the same setup. The Sony A6000, especially with the 24mm lens, was great to shoot with. It has a large sensor that allowed me to capture photos even in harsh conditions. The 24mm lens also produces very film-like photos. Even though my 24mm lens from 7Artisans is fully manual, I have to admit that I am faster than autofocus (on Canon, for example), so that wasn’t an issue. I’m happy to say that most of my shots are in focus, or at least partially!
The Canon was a great camera to have in my bag whenever we traveled somewhere. It is small, and the battery lasts long enough that I didn’t need to carry a spare with me. With its lens, I was able to do pretty much everything I wanted. Need to get close? Sure, it can go as wide as 8.8mm (FF: 24mm). Need to zoom in? No problem, 44mm (FF: 120mm) is usually sufficient. The only issue with this camera is that it struggles in low-light conditions. Fortunately, the lens is fast (f/1.8 - f/2.8), but that isn’t always enough. However, post-production can fix that, so it’s all good.
And my phone is always with me, so whenever I couldn’t take a proper picture, I would use my iPhone. I do miss the tele-lens from the pro models, but I don’t mind as much as I thought I would.
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk!
The time has finally come. It is time to share my photos from my last holiday. In January, I visited the (not so close) island of Tenerife and stayed there for a while. So let’s dive in into my warmer-than-usual January.
Our visitor - I wouldn’t call him our best friend because he wasn’t that friendly but he DID let me cuddle with him for a moment.
First part of the stay was mostly this - a stay. We did enjoy a bit of pool time. It was a great time to just sit down, put on some music and relax. But then, second week comes and we find ourselves driving car more and more, so we had a chance to take a look around the island.
Of course we had to snag some sweet pics of sunset but I just couldn’t resist doing it.
Then, for a brief moment - sky turned pink. And in this pink lightning - there’s my wife.
Then it was time to go further we ever went - quite literally! We went to see the nearby mountain (that’s actually a volcano) - El Teide.
To change a scenery a bit we moved down, to the top-right area of a map. I’m pretty good with geography as you can see. Top right, Tenerife, top right area on the map. There we went.
Of course - nothing good in life lasts forever so we found ourselves with Kalima. That unfortunately made our life a little bit worse for a moment. There was no more pretty sunsets and everything turned a bit orange. So we got not-the-best goodbye from Tenerife but that’s fine. We are gonna get a better one next time?
Interesting to see so many people being unhappy with current state of 1Password meanwhile me - on Chromium-based browsers and Firefox - I haven’t been happier with 1Password. I would like to pay less but there is NO WAY I’m gonna ditch it for iCloud passwords.
I might try to use Bitwarden because they’re cheaper but it’s going to be hard for Bitwarden to stand in for 1Password that I love so much and my whole family is using. Their integration with Fastmail to create masked emails is unbeatable.
I would like to like WhatsApp more (I know, Meta, etc. but you can’t really go off of it unfortunately) but it’s working slow most of the time. It just feels soooo slooooow. Why? What makes it feel so slow?
I hate every single article about “would Steve Jobs hate Vision Pro”. Because he’s dead for more than 10 years, lots of things has happened since then. And - as always - people obviously never change their mind and definitely it’s worth to judge something by random words of a person from ~20 years ago.
Skiff is basically winding down it’s business after being acquired by Notion. I even wanted to use Skiff at some point but I stayed with Fastmail because I wanted to use email and not put all my eggs into something that isn’t battle tested yet. In retrospect it was a great decision. Sucks to be Skiff user today.
There are multiple different blogging engines but micro.blog is the only one that does everything I want. It’s a really unfamiliar feeling to feel satisfied with software I’m using and having literally no feature requests.
“I used to listen to your podcast” | daverupert.com
It’s fine. I take no offense. In fact, that’s part of the magic of podcasts! There’s an ebb and flow to them. Here’s ten reasons I give up on podcasts
This sums up 10 years of my podcasting experience. It’s all good!
Deleted a bunch of indie games from Switch to download Witcher again. Maybe this time I’ll be able to finish the DLCs.
All that hype about Persona game left me with Persona 5 order for Nintendo Switch. It’s coming on Tuesday and I can’t wait till I get my hands on another 100h+ game that I struggle with.
Chess.com moved out from Apple Arcade and I’m mad. Is there any good chess app with one time payment or even free? Because I loved their Apple Arcade version and there’s no way in hell I’m gonna pay $50 per year to play chess.
The only good thing is that it all happened BEFORE I’ve started moving her off Fastmail to gmail, so there’s literally nothing to do.
Remember my all-gmail thingy from two weeks ago? Just reverted everything to Fastmail because my wife likes it too much (I do too, honestly). Oh well.
Feels good to be on Huel again. I didn’t take it on holidays and I did regret it a couple times when I was wondering what should I eat. Today there were no questions asked. Also - got this new curry madras and I like it very much. So far mexican chilli, katsu curry and this madras curry are the best.
A reasonable thing to do is to keep my iPhone as long as possible, observe what’s happening between Apple and Google and then decide what phone should I get.
I can’t stop thinking about getting a Pixel phone. Honestly this might be it, I might pull the trigger.
I think I might just make an experiment and just on paper figure out how expensive putting my smart-home on Google-enabled system would be. Like, if I would like to go Android, how much actually I would need to spend?
Pretty good so far! I didn’t miss a day, even if some of my entries are just „too tired to even think about my day”. I’m really happy with how my journal is shaping up. I can see and understand what I did and feel a month ago. Also I’ve convinced some friends to journal as well and their feedback was nothing but positive.
People hating on these new Apple policies and blaming the EU - just wait for the EU’s response. I’m pretty sure the EU will hold Apple accountable and push for the abolition of most of these fees. Also, Android, Windows, or even macOS are as open as the EU wants to make iOS, and there are no ridiculous fees to be paid. People aren’t sinking in malware there. Apple is the one being ridiculous and needs to be forced to make a change. Being an Apple fanboy/defender isn’t doing any good. Corporations aren’t your friends.
Apple announces changes to iOS, Safari, and the App Store in the European Union - Apple
This change is a result of the DMA’s requirements, and means that EU users will be confronted with a list of default browsers before they have the opportunity to understand the options available to them. The screen also interrupts EU users’ experience the first time they open Safari intending to navigate to a webpage.
😂😂😂
TIL: you can have as many as 8 (eight!) eSIM cards added to your iPhone. Found out because I wanted to get local esim for internet and it just let me without deleting any of my simcards. Also - I can use dual-sim with two esims!
In a motion to tighten our budget I think I’m gonna move us from Fastmail to gmail with forwardemail.net to use our custom domains. $3 per month instead of $10 is a welcome change. And I don’t care about email that much (I only care to use my own domain and not gmail’s).
Hear me out - but what if I’d switch to Windows actually? A proper desktop machine with lots of RAM and pretty good graphics? I could do the work, play games and even virtualise shit and make dev things for fun too!
But I need to remember, now and again, that Apple is a corporation, and corporations aren’t people, and they can’t love you back. You wouldn’t love GE or Exxon or Comcast — and you shouldn’t love Apple. It’s not an exception to the rule: there are no exceptions.Source: inessential: Corporations Are Not To Be Loved
OMG since I’m no longer podcasting I think I can try iPad only because I think I’ll be able to do everything on iPad now! Holy shit. I think I’m gonna try it.
So, I had to go on vacation to finally successfully self-host Yunohost with all the apps I wanted? Because it works flawlessly, fulfilling all my expectations, and costs approximately $5 per month with Contabo VPS. Great stuff.
Some time ago, we purchased some random spotlights for our living room, which already had spotlights installed. However, since they had the exact light color and power, we didn’t end up using them much. Recently, I decided to buy an empty shell and installed an IKEA Tradfri light inside, connecting it to our smart home system. To cut a long story short, it works perfectly, and I’m now ordering three more of them. Finally, we have spotlights with the ability to change the light. Even just one of them provides enough ambient light to make us fall in love with it.
I believe I have captured some of my best photos with my Canon camera simply because of its pocketable size. However, every time I pick up my so-called “big camera” (the A6000, which isn’t actually that big), I instantly realize what I miss with the Canon. The picture quality, depth of field, and the freedom to use different lenses instead of being limited to the Canon’s zoom lens (it’s good, but you can’t beat going below f/1.8).
In the upcoming weeks, as I go on vacation, I am planning to bring both of these cameras with me, along with my analog cameras. I am gonna capture photos as if there’s no tomorrow.
My phone spends 99% of the time in Apple Leather Case and somehow I still managed to scratch it quite deeply. That sucks.
Another year of micro.blog has been paid. Too happy with it to find an alternative (is there even an alternative that isn’t Wordpress that I hate with power of thousand suns?).
Google is seriously testing my resistance when it comes to the Google Pixel phone. Today, I discovered that the Pixel 7a is on sale in Spain with a whopping 33% discount. Now, I already have a phone, an iOS phone to be exact, and I’m deeply invested in the iOS ecosystem. But despite all that, the temptation to switch is real.
Today, I stumbled upon a comment claiming that socialism destroyed families and suggesting that we should encourage people to have more children while getting rid of socialist policies. I was so close to venting my thoughts by creating an account, but then I snapped back to reality and reminded myself that arguing with random strangers on the internet is simply not worth it.
If I were to unleash my rant, it would go something like this: “I’m not having kids because of the current right-wing climate. If you want to understand where I’m coming from, go ahead and ask me questions.”
But hey, let’s face it, it’s the internet we’re talking about here. Arguing with some random person in the comments section is about as useful as shouting into the void.
I’m doing actually good with my Day One usage. I said I’m gonna journal and I’m doing it most of the days!
Deleted Instagram and Threads from my phone a couple of days ago and I find myself going to Mastodon/RSS a bit more. It’s actually a welcome change!
I think micro.publish would be a welcome addition to people using Obsidian and micro.blog. So just to share it out there - do yourself a favour and check it out.
I’m really tempted to get the Pixel 8 Pro and see if Android could better suit my workflow compared to iOS.
However, there are a few things I’ll miss. I’ll definitely miss find my (we have lots of these trackers), and my entire home setup will need to be moved to homeassistant or a similar app (Google Home?). I’ll also miss my Apple Watch and magsafe accessories.
When I think about the size and potential difficulties of the change, I’m not entirely sure if I want to go through with it.
All I initially wanted was to see if I could break free from iOS restrictions and explore the world of Android. Talk about a walled garden!
I’ve made change to email system for wspanialy.eu and forum.yeswas.pl. Hope nobody will notice any difference and I can save a couple bucks every month.
Quick story in two pictures about my iPad usage. I wish I would be able to use it more but there’s not enough space for me to put all of my apps on it. Also I’m not sure if I’m iPad person and most of the time I’m using it as life counter for MTG. And when not used as life counter it stays in the kitchen so I can read food recipes easily. I think I’d enjoy using iPad mini and one day I’m gonna definitely try!
I know, it might be wishful thinking, but there’s no doubt that we’re seeing a resurgence for blogging. It’s to be expected, given that the biggest hit to blogging was Twitter.Source: 2024 is the Year of the Blog
This is exactly what I feel. My RSS reader is FULL of blogs that are active DAILY. This is great, honestly I have vibes from early 2000 and I’m here for that.
I was searching for an app to calculate my stock gains/losses and came across Sharesight, which seems to be exactly what I need. I imported all my data from XTB and calculated my gains, factoring in currency fluctuations. If anyone knows of a better tool, please let me know!
OMG, I think I’ve finally found in what way Instagram is making me miserable! Looking at all of these beautiful interiors in cities I’ll never live is THAT THING! Good reason to cut it out my life I guess.
My tabs situation, most of the time. Hi there, 2024! Looking good.
It was a really pleasant new year’s eve party! Ready to fall asleep since it’s 4am.
Today, I bid farewell to the YesWas Podcast. It’s been an incredible 10 (!) years of co-hosting this show with Wojtek Wieman. While the podcast will carry on, I’ve made the decision to step away. It’s been quite the journey, and I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for all the support throughout the years. Now, I’m looking forward to taking a well-deserved break from podcasting. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this amazing ride.
And then, when I finally found one that looks good, it’s priced at 3800 euros. Come on, I might have expensive taste but it doesn’t mean a machine that doesn’t resemble a Christmas tree should be considered expensive! I’ll go with the MacBook Air with M1. I love this cute little thing, even though the only game I can play is a browser game (and not for too long, as it tends to overheat).
Also why is every laptop that isn’t made by Microsoft or Apple really badly designed? Touchpad not in the middle? Keyboard lightning up with every possible colour? This weird thing under the display? WTF people.
Sometimes I wish I wasn’t so deep in Apple ecosystem, because with Windows+Android combo I’d hack my way out of most of my current issues, I think. Not sure if I’d like to try though (and success of that action would mean SO MANY CHANGES).
I wish Apple made a computer that would work as a gaming station. Because I want to play games on my pc but the idea of having ANOTHER device is making me mad.
During the holidays my routines were nonexistent. That means, obviously, I didn’t take any of my prescribed meds because I forgot about them and I ate food irregularly. It feels good to be back to my normal schedule - all medication taken, already consumed one Huel… I’m definitely back on track <3.
I’d love to have this kind of will to journaling. I’m doing my best and it’s fine but I’d like to be like this guy one day.
If I’m gonna consider getting Ricoh GR III just slap me and tell me to buy Sony A7, because I DO already have ASP-C camera with exchangeable lenses and what I’d actually want is full frame camera. Thank you.
Christmas are actually the worst time for me food-wise. I’m not a fan of fish, mayo, mushrooms… therefore I can’t really enjoy them. I actually miss Huel, I’d love to have it with me 🫣
Reminder to myself - Canon G5X Mark II is great but my old Sony A6000 beats it in low light conditions. Bigger sensor is bigger sensor, no way around that.
Apple please bring Journal.app to macOS. I like it very much but because if iOS only limitation I’ve started using Day One couple weeks ago. It works fine - sure. But I liked Apple’s UI a bit more.
Tip during Christmas: create new NextDNS accounts for parents (or add them to your plan) with custom configuration and just set it up on their router. Quick, easy and this will make their local network much safer. You can also tweak config from far away pretty easily. Thank me later.
Pokemoning hard. Anbernic RG35XX (love that name, rolls out on your tongue perfectly) is awesome device to play retro games on. Highly recommended if you have that itch in you. Plays everything up to PS1 included, charges with usb-c and costs ~$50-60. Love it.
Interesting times when to have chromium-based browser that WORKS as intended I’m actually thinking about using Chrome again.
Also - dear Arc. Before you change the way the web works, please make your browser work. Like, make it NOT freeze every couple of minutes with all of the buttons unusable. Make it not hide tabs (and I know they are hidden because camera shows there’s an active tab using it)… Please, get basics right first.
At this point my takes are Jack’s takes. I could just copy his posts to show what I’m thinking. This is exactly my take on Arc’s newest video.
I find myself doing the same stuff all the time. What works for me is using Arc during workday and then moving to Safari, and to streamline this proces I’m using this little app called Velja so changing default browser is just as easy as clicking in the menu bar and picking what’s the main browser today!
Just made my third Huel order. At this point I’m addicted to Mexican chilli and pasta bolognese. This time I’ve added Vanilla powder instead of Chocolate. I’m gonna mix them two! 😎
OMG, Safari is just SO FREAKING FAST after emptying its history. Who knew? Apparently keeping 100k history entries isn’t recommended.
Maybe, just maybe, Safari being slow could be related to Safari having 100k items in history. Maybe. Who knows, I guess we will never know?
Because of the usual problems with Arc, I’ve installed Firefox just to check it out. The last time I had Firefox installed was a really long time ago, and I have to admit that it works pretty well. It’s also surprisingly fast.
Got in touch with my finance advisor regarding insurance for me & wifey and he created some sort of urgency regarding agreeing to the terms. And because I’ve worked closely with sales team last couple of months I had this feeling that whatever he’s hurrying up is into probably isn’t that great. Ugh.
This one tastes likely a dessert from when I was like 7. Also next time I’m getting this powdered and I’m gonna combine this with chocolate powder. Highly recommended.
I’m on Threads and because I’m getting older I know that what works for me is pre-muting/banning people I know that I wouldn’t enjoy content from. So I’m going to „for you” and whenever I see someone I just don’t want to read - I’m muting them. I won’t even see reposts from them. It’s perfect.
Should I get MacBook Pro 14" with M1 Pro, 16GB RAM and 1TB ssd for 9999 or MacBook Pro M3 Pro 18GB Ram and 512GB ssd for 13999? Honestly, is there a difference worth 4000 of money? I need something that’s just a notch better than M1 MacBook Air and with a fan.
Not sure what’s making me mad - Arc because it’s a resource hog or MacBook Air that just can’t keep up
🍿 Past Lives (2023) - ★★★★☆

Unfortunately I’ve found Huel I can’t stand taste of. Sweet and savoury. It’s sweet and bitter. Tested curry (katsu) today too and it’s great.
Yeah. Not sure about my console gaming this year 😂. Nintendo Switch wrapped (lol) is going to be much better but this wasn’t the year to play on „proper” consoles I guess.
Journaling app is fine but I’d like to have it on my Mac. Otherwise it’s just inconvenient to add stuff there.
I really wanted to use Fastmail app on iOS more but because it’s just a website wrapped as an iOS app, it doesn’t work that good and unfortunately is unavailable offline. And I do love me some offline email.
Honestly, how they are gonna try and compete with Spotify when Spotify is adding new features every couple weeks? Sound quality is important, but overall experience is just so much more than just the music quality. And I’m writing than after moving to Spotify two-three weeks ago and actually ENJOYING listening and discovering music once again. Can’t say that about my past year of Apple Music usage unfortunately.
My old Apple AirPods (not the pro ones, and not the newest ones) are already quickly dying on battery but this time I’m looking at Nothing Ear Sticks or Ear (or whatever they’re called) and I think it’s going to be fine using not-Apple headphones? Bose QC45 made my mind more open to alternatives.
Wifey got me the leather band for Apple Watch and I love it! Pairs perfectly with Count Up dial (or any “classical” dial).
Ok, had bolognese pasta Huel today and I’m sold. I like everything I’ve got, I’m definitely gonna try some different flavours next time but it’s good. It’s really good.
Just had my first Huel meal. I have to admit - it’s really autism friendly (at least for me!). Had this Mexican chilli instant meal and it was really fine, I can see myself having this an unhealthy amount of times in a week.
Yeah, I think paying for unlimited searches was the only option here. Two weeks in and I’m at 356 searches.
If anyone wants ~free money~ to spend on Huel, just use my link.
People complaining about Google killing next product they have used, meanwhile you can literally use a product, pay for it and don’t worry about it actually going away.
I moved my personal browsing to Safari (it makes easy for me to divide then my two workspaces to work and personal).
But then Safari counting tabs and telling me THE TRUTH isn’t that welcome!
Interesting development in my life - I’m reading a changelog for a search engine that I’m paying for.
I’m still reading all of new App Default’s and whenever I see someone using Chrome it feels weird. I know people are using Chrome, I know it works fine, but it’s always surprise to see Chrome and not Safari, Firefox or something on Chromium.
I wish they find Castro a new home, back in the day it was actually one of three most popular podcast apps. I miss those days!
The biggest surprise for me was how popular Safari actually is.
… I’ve not seen a list of active bloggers that long in years, outside a few directories. It’s more than double the number of sites I had in my RSS reader’s “IndieWeb & Personal Blogs” folder after many years of slow curation.
Blogging is where it’s at, again
Same! My RSS reader is BLOOMING!
When I was younger I wanted to have as many Spotify followers as possible and right now I would actually rather the other way around.
I’m doing a research about a ~thing~ and then I find this chart. You can basically put anything as its name and it can be used to prove anything. Projected food delivery market size. Projected number of people. Projected growth of the length of my cat (I don’t have a cat).
🔗 Hall Of Shame: The 10 Most Dubious People Ever To Make Our 30 Under 30 List
While our process correctly weeded out folks like Fyre Festival impresario Billy McFarland and, yes, even Elizabeth Holmes––one-time superstars who all wound up fraudsters––others slipped through.
Moved to Spotify and got blessed with this masterpiece: www.youtube.com/watch
Also I think I want to host Yunohost for me and wifey. But not on local machine, but some kind of VPS. It would be nice to be able to connect from everywhere to it, have an option to sync with it and have control of my own data. Might give it a shot quite soon!
That extension for Torn and no split-view is something that’s keeping me off using Safari only. I wonder also how good Google Meet is going to work on Safari, I’m gonna try tomorrow and maybe - just maybe - there’s still hope for it!
Thinking of just going all in Safari to give it a fair shot. You know - with all these filters, etc. I think extensions will work better on Safari (but there are fewer of them and there isn’t any for the browser game I play!).
The masculine urge of moving between different read it later apps without actually reading anything later
No way around the greatness of user-generated playlists on Spotify. It’s just another world, Apple Music is way, way behind. Just because they treat them as second category playlists which they shouldn’t be.
Thinking about getting that Kagi unlimited. I know what I said, I just find myself going back to these days when searching didn’t suck.
I saw Jack Baty talking about his Software EDC and I think this might be as interesting as defaults are. So let’s do it.
That’s it, that’s my stack. This is what I’m using nearly everyday. What’s yours?
Added another reflink to my about page - YNAB and ClearVPN. So if you wanted to get some discount or longer trial - feel free to check it out.
That Nintendo Game with Ring-Con that makes you do exercise in front of your TV has my seal of approval. 🫡
NextDNS messes with iMessage, with App Store, actually lots of Apple services suddenly aren’t working (even though blocklist or log is empty!). Also some of random, normal, regular websites are broken. Getting to old for that. It would be great if NextDNS would work but it just doesn’t for me.
Tried for 100th time to use NextDNS on router and all our devices but it messes with so much that I can’t actually rely on it. 1.1.1.1 it is.
Leather case. On the left - new, dark blue (I ordered black one but fine). On the right - green one after 10 months. I’m returning the right one because something tells me that is NOT supposed to be happening.
On one hand it’s easier to go full-Apple with iMessage, Safari, Apple Music, etc. But on the other - I’m not convinced that everything that Apple delivers is always working. iOS/macOS is the best platform… to run 3rd party apps for everything.
Another interesting one that I didn’t know about - Spotify allows you to watch video podcasts in the app, that makes using Spotify a bit more appealing, not gonna lie.
I love it because I don’t always want to read Mastodon, but sometimes I’d love just to post something. And MarsEdit enables just that, so adding Mastodon is just GREAT!
MarsEdit 5.1 will add support for Mastodon and now you can easily add images to microblog window! Love it, love it, love it!
Wife’y convinced me to get Spotify. I’m not mad about doing so, Spotify on Mac works thousand times better than Apple Music. Having an app that actually works and isn’t slow is going to be a nice change.
🔗 The Most Amazing Lie in History | Mental Floss
The task seemed impossible, but luckily, the British had a secret weapon: a short, young balding Spaniard. He was the king of con men, an amateur spy gone pro, the world’s sneakiest liar. He was also, of all things, a chicken farmer.
This is very close to what Micro.blog offers but I think we can go even more textcasting. I wish there was an option to use something like that, Tumblr seems similar but… you can’t self-hosting and especially when Tumblr’s future is not yet decided on.

Oh my god I’ve installed Obsidian and even used it in a good way, I think Obsidian is here to stay. Obsidiannation?
The only thing that has kept me from running my blog on Wordpress is that after 9 years of publishing posts on Wordpress, every week, I hate it with my guts.
Honestly Safari experiment didn’t even last 24h, Arc is too good. Moved everything back, added additional profiles and settled in for good. No point in changing from something that just works perfectly fine!
I’m gonna try use Safari more with Velja. Made some rules to open work stuff in Arc Browser and personal stuff in Safari. This might work!
In people’s defaults I see lots and lots of Kagi users. Interesting. Maybe I should give it another spin with some money out on fire? I really liked how it worked but not sure if I want/need to pay for a search engine.

A Buddhist monk named Brother Spirit led them to Humane. Mr. Chaudhri and Ms. Bongiorno had developed concepts for two A.I. products: a women’s health device and the pin. Brother Spirit, whom they met through their acupuncturist, recommended that they share the ideas with his friend, Marc Benioff, the founder of Salesforce.

Signal is introducing usernames on staging environment! Cool, it’s coming sooner than later then I guess.
I wish Arc just wasn’t that good and I could simply use Safari but no, of course, it’s not that easy and Arc is basically the best browser out there, damn you

I’m going to Bombay Bicycle Club show in a couple of weeks so I’ve checked if they did publish an album I should listen to before I go (because I’m in love with their first two albums) and they did. And it’s great! Honestly. I have a feeling that it actually might become my fav album of theirs!
🎵 My Big Day - Bombay Bicycle Club - ★★★★★

Kev Quirk on his blog did an analysis of subscriptions (and before that, it was Manu Moreale) so I thought it would be a good exercise to do it too, so let’s go.
Let’s start with “necessities”:
Now let’s move on to entertainment:
And finally, hobbies:
So to sum it up, it’s about 470 PLN per month, which translates to about $115 per month. Could it be lower? Definitely, but we agreed that what we have here is low enough for us to keep it. Streaming services are obviously the first to be cut if needed, but for now, it’s okay.
We used to have subscriptions for Netflix (which was about 70 PLN ~~ $17) and Disney (289 PLN ~~ $70 per year), but we stopped paying for them because who actually has enough time to consume that amount of media? HBO and ATV+ are enough, and when they aren’t, we can always use our locally hosted Plex machine (which we do for content that’s unavailable otherwise!).
So, to continue this discussion - how about you? What is your monthly subscription payment?
Searching for search engine notes:
Here I am, Bing or Google, unfortunately.
Yesterday my wife & I budgeted next month in YNAB just to wake up to an email about YouTube Premium price increase. Eh.
There’s an app that I use very single day to create screenshots of everything and it’s the best. Honestly.
Take look at Cleanshot and I’m pretty sure you’re gonna love it.
Tested Kagi for as-long-as-I-could-without-paying. It’s pretty good I must admint. Not sure if $10 per month good, but good!
New M3 Macs looks fine enough to get upgrade. The one that interests me the most is about 11500 pln ($2755 with taxes) so it’s not that bad, but I’m gonna wait a couple months and snag it on 1-2k pln discount because of course they will be that cheaper in ~Feb.
I broke OS on not one but two different Raspberry Pies I’ve got at home. Not looking forward to spinning them up again from scratch unfortunately but I have to. Sounds like weekend/Friday plans are made up…
I guess everyone will raise prices for streaming but there’s this one place that will always have movies and tv shows for free and I’m not saying anything but I guess I am?
Yea somehow I doubt that my data is perfectly safe and private because if it really was that, then GDPR wouldn’t do any harm to you! And - after 5 years - it’s still unavailable here. I love European Union and how law (GDPR in this case) is actually making these shitty services disappear from EU!
About me being close to new hetzner server yesterday - I was actually thinking of getting YunoHost for my wife and myself. I didn’t do a thing though because was too asleep but I think this day will come.
I don’t even need to host anything new and I’m not ready to take on another wspanialy-related journey. Still researched the best VPSes to propably buy and use.
It’s not like I have too much time but I’d definitely spin up new VPS and host something for people to enjoy.
Publishing posts on Patreon with audio might be one of the worst experiences on the internet. It’s taking AGES.
I wish that DuckDuckGo was actually good instead of being “good enough and if it isn’t good I can always use !g bang to search google!”. If you always “bang” yourself out of DDG - it just isn’t that good, you don’t have to lie to yourself.
Heard good things about Qwant, so I’m gonna check it on all of my devices and see if it really does work that good.
I love Spendee and I use it everyday with my wife but the reason I’m gonna leave them (and stop paying money which I AM!) is because those fuckers are sending me notifications and showing pop-ups in the app to buy premium. It’s so annoying!
We are gonna talk about going back to Spotify though when they introduce this high quality plan, because there’s literally no way in hell I’m coming back to Spotify after listening to everything in lossless (inb4 - yes, I do have equipment to really enjoy it and I do hear the difference!).
Wifey wanted to get back to Spotify because algorithmic playlists AND user-generated playlists are much better than on Apple Music but then getting rid of Apple One just literally doesn’t make sense when we want to use Apple TV+. This is how they get you.
I know, I said something about moving to Wordpress from micro.blog but honestly Wordpress isn’t even close in terms of how easy and usable it is.
Saw someone ask a question why is Signal better than Telegram, found this reddit thread and someone did a great job with a summary.
If it ever gets deleted, here’s a copy:
Signal encrypts everything you do end-to-end by default no matter what device you’re using it on; Telegram’s encryption is opt-in, only works on mobile, and only in one-to-one conversations
Signal’s encryption is the gold-standard, and universally praised by Cybersecurity experts; Telegram “rolled their own” encryption, a giant red flag in Cybersecurity, and the quality of their encryption is not nearly as high. Telegram’s encryption has been called “weird” by Cybersecurity experts because it was not created by trained Cryptographers
Signal’s Android, iOS, Desktop, and Server code is open-source; only Telegram’s client code is open-source, so there’s no telling what they’re doing with the data they store on their servers
Signal is a registered non-profit charity; Telegram is now profit-driven after years of being free which means they will inevitably start selling user data - die a hero, or live long enough to become the villain
Signal has never been banned in Russia and then suddenly unbanned for no reason; Telegram was banned in Russia until it was unbanned, seemingly with no reason or explanation
Bought new winter jacket and I’m actually amazed that such light and thin jacket is going to keep me warm in Polish winter temperatures (-10°C in a worst case scenario).
Elon Musk is considering taking Twitter out of Europe amid EU compliance investigation
At this I’m pretty sure everone would be glad to get rid of it.
Saw a blog post (sorry, can’t find whom was it) about making mail.app basically work like Sparrow app worked once before and honestly this minimal look with only mail list works for me, highly recommended to check if that works with your brain too.
One of these days when I need not one but two ADHD pills to even function properly. I don’t even want to think what past me, without meds and diagnose would do. Cry and run around probably.
Only thing that sucks is how hard it is to move all of my blogposts with photos from micro.blog to Wordpress. I think at the end I’m just gonna manually move all of them. One evening and I’m done, I think.
Honestly I’ve even already set up this new blog (this address ROCKS, pawel.orzech.me? how much better it actually can get?) but it’s going to be empty for a while. Just wanted to get everything in place and test how shit works because I haven’t used Wordpress in a very long time (apart from weekly podcast publications).
At the end of my micro.blog sub I’m gonna probably move to selfhosted Wordpress since ActivityPub got that nice support (with Mastodon apps!).
Of course - we bought printer a couple years ago, used it a few times and when it’s really needed there is no ink. Of course.
It’s one of only few YouTube videos that deliver exactly what they have in the title.

I wonder if renting stuff out instead of owning it is a good idea. For example phone - I’d just be paying subscription to have one and then each year I’d be getting new one without thinking what to do with the old one. I’m really not opposed to that.
Oh wow, Bing really IS better than Google. I mean - Kagi is better than both of these but I ain’t gonna pay 10 bucks to search the world wide web. (or am I?)
If this Spotify Superpremium is going to cost ~60-75pln for family of six I’m gonna leave apple music and get this, add my mom and my dad and just live happily ever after.

Basically iPhone 14 with usb-c. I’m all for it and actually I’ll be inclined to “downgrade” from 14 Plus to it. And if they keep price so low this will be a no-brainer.
Had to restore forum from backup yesterday because my previous nginx configuration messed up with let’s encrypt and it was just easier and quicker to boot up another machine and restore it from backup. Anyway, here’s my face after 2 hours of “just gonna update Discourse quickly and go to bed”.
Also after moving to mostly one-desk-to-do-it-all setup I think Mac Mini IN ADDITION to my current M1 Air isn’t that bad idea? Beefing it up a bit and it could be much better setup but I would still be able to move between places with Air. All these ideas are great until money becomes a topic.
I hope Apple is going to refresh iMacs and Mac Minis to M2/M3 quite quickly because yo boy here is on the market to maybe pull the trigger somewhere there.
I am Apple Music user, love the quality, I have my fav playlists there. BUT because I’m YT Premium subscriber I’ve got an access to YouTube Music. It’s not the highest quality, of course, but it does work fine and in the web browser it actually works thousand times better than AM ever was.
This is definitely going to be a tricky one, but… is there an easy way (or cheap way) to move all of my #homekit onto something less iOS exclusive? If one would, like, want to get an #Android phone, then what would that one be able to do about current smart home? #smarthome
Just when I wanted to leave Arc and use something like Vivaldi, Arc is doing something cool again.
I wanted to actually think about starting Lemmy instance but honestly all of this content moderation made me instantly regret it. I think it would be fun to host it as in technical part of things, but all of the rest is definitely not fun.
WiFiman is just great tool. Everytime I’m outside and need to do something on local machines I’m thanking myself for picking Ubi Dream Machine as router because it’s just so easy to do stuff there! And no-configuration VPN is perfect.
I love how many these prominent CEOs have Signal installed. I mean if they use it to talk - and they do have lots to keep private because that would bury them - then I feel better about it. Signal is great.
If someone asked me how this time meeting dad would be interesting I wouldn’t say “he woke up from two week’s coma” but here we are. He woke up and he’s getting better. Fuck, these last two weeks weren’t really my cup of tea.
I wish Arc Browser wasn’t heating up my mac to 50-60*C just because it’s opened. It’s not sustainable. Especially when if I’m using Safari, these temperatures are 50% lower. Safari it is I guess? Or is there anything that’s light on energy/battery/temperature that isn’t Safari?
I fear that missing fan in MacBook Air is actually going to bite me in the ass quite soon therefore I’m unfortunately looking at new macs. First of all - are M1 Pro 14 cool or not? Also worth waiting for cheaper MacBook Pro in October/November?
OMG, honestly, this ability to add websites as apps on macOS is awesome. Having an app for Fastmail which basically is website + icon badges, Mastodon website or even forum.yeswas.pl is just crazy and I love it!
Because obviously I hate myself I’ve upgraded to MacOS Sonoma already. It’s coming out on Monday, what could go wrong… Safari stuff though was worth it, for reals. It’s just great having these separate profiles >on Safari<.
Playing Baldur’s Gate 3 with friends and it’s great so far (we had to slaughter everyone in one city but other than that I’d say we are doing ok) and found out today that Pillars of Eternity Complete Edition for Nintendo Switch got discounted 75%. I guess there’s nothing I can do but getting it.
Mastodon gets better search, onboarding, and cross-server interactions
New Mastodon is actually, really, really, really, really good. Great starting point for new mastonauts.
Also - yesterday me and two of my folks went into a MTG community event. Honestly it was great! There was about 10 of us, we played two pretty long games and I loved it!
Or when ADHD meds aren’t doing shit for most of the day and then suddenly an hour before end of the workday you can do stuff that’s unimaginable to normal people but anything that had to be done today is actually done and you’re just sitting there. Cool, cool. I like how predictable all of this is.
Yeah, about that fix for iMessage - got logged out, nothing works anymore even with that privacy setting turned off. This is such a bullshit. I’m really glad that I don’t need to use iMessage on a daily basis.
So first book about photography is really entry level. Nothing new unfortunately but if someone’s starting with getting into photography it’s nicely written and there are lots of examples. The second one about portraits though is good. Interesting. I learned new stuff and saw good pics. Overall - 7/10.
This one little setting made it IMPOSSIBLE for me to sign in into iMessages. Literally couldn’t figure it out for like two weeks and after randomly checking it off, iMessage logged in, synced all of my messages. Ugh.
Obviously new iPhones are the best ones yet, but holy molly, usb-c might be the only really interesting thing and I don’t really care that much*. Times are changing, my wallet is being grateful!
I like this type of getting old - I didn’t notice that there’s an Apple Keynote happening today and scheduled a meeting with friends. I’m fine, literally couldn’t care less about keynote happening. Getting rid of the fomo is good.
Well actually if apple would show new iMac with M2 Pro or M3 or whatever with like 32GB+ RAM then I’d be interested.
Crazy how good is to have Allegro Smart. At this point it already paid for itself like couple hundred times.
Omg.lol just got it’s matrix server and I’m convinced. So if you’d like to get in touch via matrix with me, I’m @pawel:omg.lol from now on.

Jumping on that beta train just before release isn’t as crazy I think. I’ve installed beta just to get that better keyboard honestly and so far has been worth it. Besides that I can’t really see much changes?
Funny thing that has changed in me - I’m not even remotely interested in iPhone Pro this year. First of all - this is my wife’s year for a new iPhone and we are not gonna spend that much money for a pro. And it’s honestly refreshing - not going after the mostest bestest one, but the one that’s fine

COVID is a bitch, unfortunately. Tests are negative, but everything else tells me it’s it. Took me 3,5 years to get one!
Just found out that it’s already been two years since I’ve bough SIM card for iPad Air and because of that, for 29 pln (roughly $7) I’ve got 180GB of 5G data. 180GB, $7. Polish internet prices are just awesome.
Adding sound system was the right idea too at one point. HomePods and Sonos are right combination. It sucks to have multiple smart speakers in the same rooms but if you can - it’s just the easiest way. We treat HomePods (minis!) as Siri interface only. Sonos as TV + music system is unbeatable.
And because we are humans and we like to click buttons, there are buttons! One button in the bed frame to turn everything into sleep mode, control panel with 6 buttons in pairs to control temperature, blinds and lights. It became so natural that I really miss it when away from home.
I mean - house lights up at exactly right moment, voice assistant (Siri) isn’t that bad, home tries to always keep just right temperature and blinds are giving exact light to privacy (or sun blockage!) ratio that we like. It’s just amazing how it works when it works without an issue.
I don’t feel like doing new smart-home stuff after my adventure of setting up heating, lights, security system in place. Had it automated for a long time and everything feels perfect. I’m really glad that I did what I did back then because it’s just effortlessly seamless for both of us.
I wish Apple’s mail.app wouldn’t just make my mac hot-af whenever I’m trying to use it. It’s the only app that makes mac unbearable hot and literally unusable. Tried #Thunderbird and #Mailmate but both of these lack conversation view like in gmail/mail.app.
I love pixelfed and mastodon but I’d be really happy if there was one app that would switch between being mastodon app and pixelfed reading app. So I can read timeline like in Ivory and then with one switch just watch media like in Vernissage.

Yeah, regarding that last SigmaOS post - there’s no way in hell I’m gonna pay for a browser. Like, really, no way. Even if everything else is paid, Safari is going to be free and going strong. So Arc stays, bye bye to SigmaOS. That was a quick one.
Just found out about SigmaOS - it’s a different approach to browser, just like Arc. Testing it out because it looks… nice? Also it’s much faster than Arc is!
Gluon for micro.blog got updated and somehow is now thousand times faster when it comes to loading timeline. Great stuff!

You know what? After a couple of hours I think I’d rate Barbie ★★★☆☆. It just isn’t as fun and as cool. It was a bit shallow, funny but shallow. And I know what it wanted to do, but I don’t think it was good at doing that. It wasn’t bad movie! Don’t get me wrong. It just could have been better.

Melon Musk is destroying Twitter and its legacy and what amazes me is the thought process of getting rid of the brand that made to verb. Tweeting was once a world phenomenon and now he’s changing all of it to become generic X social media. He’s doing great on path to burn 44 bil! Happy to see it.

Out there because it’s one year marriage anniversary with this girl. I’m just the luckiest and there’s not much to add.

No opinions on it yet, but judging on three singles - it’s gonna be amazing. Post Malone is doing great music, I’ve become very fond of him in the last couple of years. Hope he is fine, I’d like to observe and experience his music for a very long time.
It’s our first marriage anniversary, and we’re meeting people who don’t know us as an unmarried couple. Interestingly, they’ve never seen us unmarried, and in their minds, we’ve always been married. Funny!
Akiflow has been moved up to the first page of apps. And Things (as a backup) went to the second. Exciting times when I’m changing task managers!
Finishing second month of #ADHD medication. It’s weird that I’ve managed to exist for the past 30 years without it and now I can’t think of a day when I won’t take them. Pure bliss, focus and calmness. If you’re on the verge of taking them - do it, life can be much easier!
Also - Bose QC45 are just fucking amazing. No way around that. Just a great pair of headphones, with great sound and awesome noise cancelling. Because of my autism I’m pretty sensitive to loud sounds, so these are with me pretty much always (and if not - I have Loop Quiet in my pocket).
Oppenheimer in IMAX was pretty cool, but apart from the bigger screen - everything else in IMAX is making me sad. I’m not even enjoying this sound, because it was so loud that my wife & I had to wear headphones to lower down the volume.

It’s been a while since I’ve rocked an Android phone and it might be a good time to pick something up and see how it works nowadays
Earth shatters heat records, faces uncharted extreme weather - The Washington Post
(…) the planet experiencing its warmest June ever charted, according to new data. And then, on Monday, came Earth’s hottest day in at least 125,000 years. Tuesday was hotter.
I’d say we’re fucked.
Hot (pun intended) tip for macOS users: Hot App will let you know what the current temp of your mac internals is. Downloaded because my mac felt hot and it showed that temp has risen to 90°C. (Mail.app was to blame)

Also Arc Browser works great on my 4k screen, but going down just to macbook’s screen is so painful.
Arc Browser is becoming more and more sluggish even though they said they are gonna work on its performance. Considering switch to Safari (personal) + Chrome (work) because of it.
Also I spent another 6 hours in Zelda:ToTK - it’s such a masterpiece. 75% of that time was just doing shrines and stuff like that and then 25% - finally pushed the main story forward and did the first phenomena. It’s so cool!
Today and tomorrow me & my best mates are having semi-holidays. One of us has an empty flat that we furnished with our own gaming devices (monitors, TV’s, consoles, etc.) and we spend the ENTIRE DAY playing games and having fun. I feel really blessed that we are able to do it and IT’S THE BEST!
Thanks, I would like my right to privacy more than having an access to another Facebook’s services though. I knew Gruber was doing more and more bad takes recently, but he’s just becoming unreadable.
For the past ~8 years I’m selfhosting rss reader for myself and about 30 other folks. So if you always wanted to try and never had a chance - feel free to create account and read stuff. Also if you do - Reeder on macOS and iOS is just unbelievably good.
I was wondering why Threads weren’t available in Poland but apparently that’s be design. Actually the entire EU will be excluded from Threads.
Looking for a Notes app with AI support that’s not Notion. Anyone have any ideas? I’m on macOS and iOS, so it would be cool if it would run on both. Notion is just to messy overall for me - i don’t think like Notion system does.
By pure accident I’ve found myself in the dark bathroom, with a camera and portable light. New profile picture appeared!
When you and your friend have similar photography addiction so this is how you’re looking at them and vice versa.
This Friday I’m decommissioning Calckey.pl and social.yeswas.pl. Long live wspanialy.eu! Can’t wait to cut these two servers and media storages, my bills are gonna be smaller by 70%.
Finally found some time to put my new home-server together and I’m really impressed with how much SSD’s are making everything quicker. New era of self-hosting I guess?
Company retreat - so far, so good! Also - no alcohol is becoming a thing and I’m a fan of that, definitely.
ADHD meds are cool and stuff but unfortunately having heart at 140BPM is not something I’m fan of. Damn.
Two months - this is how long it took me from being Calckey fan to being a doubter. It’s just too unstable - both in terms of official server performance and software that runs on it.
Today’s mission to configure server wasn’t successful but I’ll get to that. Yunohost without internet isn’t really working and DietPi… I’ve plugged out USB drive during installation by accident. Seems like it’s not my day to succeed with it! Gonna give it a go later.
Installing Yunohost on machine without access to the internets is so painful I retreated to DietPi. My RPi400 works on it for a very long time, so why mess with perfection?
Not only prices of everything are going up (hi there, Netflix) but those big entities are closing themselves (hi reddit). Selfhosting is the way forward then - just got my HP T630 and I’m gonna selfhost the entire internets.
Because of some catholic thingy it’s a bank holiday here in Poland, so I took my time to drink coffee and unsubscribe from like thousand of newsletters that somehow got into my inbox. Arc Browser with this small pop-up window makes unsubscribing so quick!
ADHD meds have some additional benefits! I’m not only able to focus, but I’ve also lost interest in high-dopamine foods like sweets, fast-food or even soft drinks. That’s good, already lost a bit weight because of that.
Another Calckey-related rant: two RC’s in 24h because there’s not enough QA done. I was Calckey fan, now it’s just annoying to comply with how this project is being managed. Ugh. And last stable release has long-standing bug that just freezes THE WHOLE instance every couple of minutes. Bonkers.
Got a present for my 30rd birthday that was six months ago because it took a while to get it here. I got my custom MTG card! It’s basically Animar, Soul of Elements, my fav commander but with me on it 😂.
I was really close to post that I think I might need to move to iMessage later this year since they have made cool improvements but holy shit, no way, randomly logged out of iMessage on Mac. I wonder if Apple will get their shit together like, ever.
Mastodon is much easier to maintain than Calckey is. Especially when release schedule of Calckey is basically nonexistent. My overall experience isn’t really good. Think twice before hosting it.
🍿Wow. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023) - ★★★★★

Also, for the first day in a very, very long time - I won’t be watching WWDC live. There’s Spiderman showing in IMAX near me so guess what I’ve picked.
On this WWDC day I found out that my iCloud photos on my Mac just randomly stopped syncing two weeks ago. It takes courage to deliver something so faulty, and so unreliable, AND charge money for it.
Anbernic RG35XX with GarlicOS installed. My previous retro console was stolen so when I found out you can get THIS much horsepower (it can play PS1 games with little to no sweat) for 45 bucks, there was no hesitation.
📺 Ted Lasso (2020-2023) - ★★★★★

On my #WWDC23 wish-list I’ve got only one thing: let me turn off/on e-sim with shortcuts. I’d like to be able to turn on my business phone everyday at ~9 and turn it off after work. This would be amazing.
Got tickets to see new, animated Spiderman (Spider-man? Spider man? whatever) in IMAX quite soon. I just can’t wait, this is going to be so big and so unbelievably beautiful. Watched the first one couple of times and every time I was amazed how perfected this image is. Highly recommended!

You’re drinking coffee because you want to wake up in the morning, I drink coffee because I don’t use meds for my ADHD and this is one of the easiest and quickest ways to get myself to focus on stuff. We are not the same (or we are, not sure who is reading that).
Had a minor medical procedure done on Friday and not there yet. It was the closest I was to the real operation and not really a fan, honestly. I’m gonna be fine, but last couple of days were a bit painful.
Just got our newest rolls back - so photos from trip to Mallorca and a couple of days before it, so I can now photo-dump my blog and show you some of the coolest shots I’ve got!
So - before even going to Spain, first we have to go to my mums for a second and grab some of THE BEST Polish food anyone can cook.
Now back to Warsaw, for a quick hangout with folks.
And here we go, Spain! First night just seven minutes with a taxi from the airport and I’m already in love!
My wife was doing great job by utilising a car and I was trying to be as helpful as possible.
First stay - just in the middle of nowhere. Blissful nothingness.
Our little friend!
Couple more shots from this first, amazingly beautiful place.
I mean, come on.
We were changing locations a lot, to avoid being bored and our neighbourhood was just unbelievable.
After being in the middle of nowhere we moved up, to Alcudia, to enjoy these beaches with pure, white sand.
Then - mountains! Bunyola and all of the small, pretty villages, cities and towns that. Should we move here?
And for the rather bittersweet ending - Palma.
And that was it, two weeks in Mallorca, all over the island. I have used Kodak Gold 400 and Canon Sure Shot Z115. Fortunately coming back to Poland was easier, we brought with us some really nice weather, but I just wish we could’ve stayed a little bit longer.
This is bonkers - MTG: Arena is supported on Mac via Epic Store and it’s unavailable for Mac on Steam. I didn’t expect much from Wizards of the Coast but this is really uncool.
I’m gonna stay on micro.blog but I think Calckey is overall better than Mastodon. To each they own, of course, but for me - Calckey just feels better.
I’m jumping around with cases on my phone and going from no case to leather case to dbrand’s grip and I know I’m gonna probably regret it one day but going with leather case because it just feels so good that my autism is doing brrrr (in a good way!).
But back to the going out of the walled garden - I’d love to be able to do it. Just so we aren’t as dependent on what Apple is doing as we are now. On other hand - only Apple is being serious with their smart home division, because Google’s Home app is just plain bad.
Just saw the announcement of new Echo Pop speaker. In - Apple only - household I’d be pretty keen to jump over to a different ecosystem if they would finally bring support for Polish. Siri is a teenager and still can’t speak Polish. Bummer.
#Zelda is great. Just wanted to say that. I’m enjoying it very much and there’s always something cool to do even when you’re not progressing main story.
New #Zelda is also great. I had a chance to play BOTW these six years ago but it didn’t stick. I grabbed physical copy of new one to just try it out and boy oh boy I’m having fun. I haven’t tackled the main quests a lot yet, but getting there!
Upgraded calckey.pl server a bit today - basically doubled its parameters. So it’s now on 4 vCPU, 8GB of ram and 80GB of SSD and I have to say that it works great. I mean, it’s probably going to be slow again after reaching 100-120 active accounts, but it’s good for now!
My phone had like 60GB of cache (system data on iPhone) and finally, after me not doing a thing just waiting over TWO MONTHS - it got emptied. I’ve finally got over 60GB of internal storage on my phone back!
First day after two-weeks holidays wasn’t so bad. I mean there was fire, obviously, but not like being in hell fire. Good, happy to see that!
Gave another shot at fixing issues with S3 on forum.yeswas.pl but failed miserably again. #Discourse sometimes is just soooo painful…
Tried - once again - using Spotify for audio at home but Apple Music with lossless is just too good to pass on. #IThinkIveSaidItBefore
I love UK, I’ve lived there for some time but every time I see something about monarchy I’m just upset. We are watching coronation right now and the only way to describe it would be “bizzare”.
That Calckey instance I was talking about since Thursday or whatever - is already on the server list at Calckey.org!
Federation is hard - said by me after 12 hours of trying to work out why some instances see and some don’t see Calckey.pl instance. Eh.
#EDIT 6 hours later: everything works at least semi-fine.
Calckey.pl is up, Polish instance of Calckey, for free, for everyone. Because apparently I had too much time on my hands!
Social network not supporting RSS out of the box is kind of pointless to me now (cough bluesky cough)
Got new domain - calckey.pl. There’s nothing there but I wonder, what should I host on that domain, hmmmm…
Got invited to Bluesky and first thing I did was to connect micro.blog to it, so with my every post on my blog, it gets automatically propagated on Mastodon and now - Bluesky.
Btw, I’m here: Paweł Orzech on Bluesky
Also - for the first time in 9 years we’ve made a break in podcast and I have to say - not thinking about it, the freedom of not having to plan it - it was refreshing. I’m glad I’m gonna be back on it soon, but I think it’s healthy to do breaks more often than every 9 years.
Spain “works” for me in terms of how calm, beautiful, chilled out and simple can it be. It doesn’t mean that we are gonna buy a property here, but it’s not like we didn’t talk about it! Wifey didn’t say no, so that’s a start:)
The day I said I’m gonna probably die without ever tasting a mussel, I did have a mussel. It wasn’t good, but glad I had it!
That’s why you shouldn’t use social media networks that are centralised and controlled by one, single entity. Because Twitter’s fuckeroo IS going to happen again somewhere.
It’s unbelievable how beautiful Mallorca is. I haven’t been this in love in a city in a very long time.
Pulled the trigger - now everyone is following my main account @pawel@orzech.me which is my micro.blog. Cool!
Dropbox CEO Drew Houston says the change is ‘necessary’ to ensure the company is at the ‘forefront of the AI era.’
Isn’t Dropbox an app that syncs a folder between Web and other devices? AI? U mad?
I was always afraid of holiday trips as in we go on a trip from town to town (#autism) but holy shit isn’t this so much fun. My brain is actively sabotaging itself but every single experience so far was nothing but positive and worthwhile.
Just unbelievable how amazing it is here. I’m pretty sure I’m gonna try and convince my wife to buy a property here because honestly it’s just too perfect.
Prepared myself for moving onto micro.blog a bit more - now my Mastodon-compatible username is @pawel@orzech.me for my blog, so when I’m gonna make a switch, it’s going to look great on your timelines!
They do look old though as in I’d look twenty or more years older than I am. Sucks to be me I guess.
Or if my Apple Watch battery is dying, I should get a normal, proper watch? I always wanted to roll an Omega or Rolex and this might be my chance? It would suck to live without my Apple Watch health alerts etc, but I wouldn’t have to worry about battery ever again. Tough decisions ahead!
Even though im curious of Bluesky and how it works, there’s no chance in hell I’m gonna move from my blog or Mastodon. Times of billionaire owned social networks are over for me.
It took me nearly 1,5 hours but I’ve successfully moved social.yeswas.pl to a new, twice as fast, machine. It’s gonna also be 50% cheaper, so that’s great! Now I only need to move forum.yeswas.pl to new server in the next two months.
I’ve asked #ChatGPT to write me a detailed plan for migrating my own Mastodon instance from one machine to another and this is what it came up with. I’m not sure if it’s gonna work, but for sure I’m gonna try it.
I think I’m gonna migrate all of you - my dear followers - into my micro.blog account. Then each response would be a comment on a blog, each post could unfold into great discussion in the comments and overall I think it would be easier to use. Too late in the evening to make a switch, but tomorrow?
Also - I didn’t want to do any web admin stuff for a long time now and I suddenly feel the urge to ~do stuff~. I’m not gonna cause it’s late and eyes are already sore, but boy oh boy, the next few days are gonna be interesting. I might finally move everything to it’s new home?!
First order of being off-business for a couple of weeks - disconnected the big mac screen. Now I’m using only laptop’s screen and it does trick brain into being off work already!
Google Calendar removing Google Meet by default made the whole product thousand times less convenient.
I’ve learned to drink coffee with oat milk. It’s actually pretty decent, yet another step in being animal-free in terms of food!
Yesterday I’ve nearly moved social.yeswas.pl to the new server but Mastodon’s docs aren’t really that helpful - there’s nothing about moving lets encrypt and restoring Mastodon from backup. Eh.
Is that an RussiaWatch on our wrist? When you binge TV series, do you watch Ruflix on a Russian TV set, sitting on a sofa made by the world famous furniture company, RUSKEA?

Today new Post Malone’s single came out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzPQ_jA00bk
And I’m very, very happy with it. Can’t wait for the rest of the album, it’s going to be awesome! Also when you’re surprised that Posty can sing as in not rap but singing, check this one out.
Oh, I understand now, the one I like is Link’s Awakening. It’s really good and playable - even the first version in monochrome. I wish BoTW had pulled me so much, but I just can’t find myself enjoying it. I’ve tried, but apart from sightseeing, everything else I just loathe.
Couple months ago got myself game&watch from Nintendo with Zelda on it. I’ve tried with first two Zelda games but couldn’t stick, and then, the last one seems to be something I’d like to explore. Interesting. Also this device is just the cutest.
I wish micro.blog official app on Mac supported global shortcuts. So I can do CMD+SHIFT+T and create new post window from everywhere. MarsEdit does it but it doesn’t support drag & drop for images (maybe that’s the way to go though and pray for this feature here?)
Got my DNA results back. Seems like I’m pretty ordinary in a really good way, nothing is weird and that’s a good thing to hear!
Ugh, bought couple of these reddit avatars and managed to snag the nyan cat one. I think it’s… fine?
Spent some time yesterday getting Linux up on my old Air so my mom could use it. After failing to install ChromeOS Flex I decided to go with Ubuntu. I think it’s the easiest and most maintained OS I could get on it. Unfortunately MacOS is EOL for Mid 2013 Air, so I had to pick something else.
Just wait till Tumblr gets ActivityPub support and the fediverse is going to get wild and weird and I’m here for it. Heck - I might even consider moving to it at some point. Fingers crossed Tumblr!
My old Macbook Air from 2013 is gonna get second life soon. I’m thinking about putting a Chrome OS or Ubuntu on it so my mom could use it as her computer. She’s using really old and end-of-life chromebook so she’s due already. I’m actually looking forward to making it work again!
Bose QC45 are coming in on Tuesday. I just can’t stand how uncomfortable AirPods Pro are. I hate when something has to be INSIDE of my ear, no way. Wife’s happy with the upgrade and I’m gonna enjoy that mindblowing ANC.
Bought myself a new camera - Canon Sure Shot Z115 - and I think I’m gonna do a full circle soon. Started with plastic, analog cameras and now getting into higher end ones. Just wait till I get a proper camera and mimic in analog what I can already do in digital.

As an autistic person with ADHD - I’m so happy that I’m able to work remotely using text most of the time. It’s just so much easier for me (even though after all these years I actually don’t mind videoconferences).
Couple years ago I started doing monthly playlists. Nowadays I’m more like a single-yearly-playlist guy because I don’t have enough time to listen to all the music. So if you’d like to follow me on my musical journey this year - follow this playlist.
Spotify - just add higher audio quality and we’ll be golden. I’d trade Apple Music for Spotify then in a second.
🍿 See How They Run (2022) - ★★★☆☆
I thought I like movies like that but this one got me really bored

I know I don’t need Steam Deck… I’d like it though.
(My Nintendo Switch screams now in not-being-touched-in-a-weeks)
Couple months ago I bought some reddit avatars because I’m sucker for those, obviously, and now apparently I can sell one for $1000. At this time I refuse to comment what the heck.
What works better: two phones - one for normal stuff and other for work, or one phone with two sim cards? Anyone knows from experience?
Apparently #Hipstamatic came back to be the Instagram we all wanted to have but seems to me like I don’t really want to have any type of Instagram? Fingers crossed though! I loved it back the day.
One day Apple Music on Mac will work fast and without any lags, but that day isn’t today. What a piece of garbage.
My therapist once said that you don’t have to be better version of yourself everyday, so I’m gonna trust it and after brief walk to get mcdonalds I’m gonna listen to music and lay on the couch. Cause there’s nothing wrong in it
Night of updates! Forum updated to Discourse 3.1.0.beta3, social.yeswas.pl updated to Mastodon 4.1.1. Feels_great_man.
This is post number 202. I don’t think I ever had a blog with 202 posts published. Here’s for the next 202!
Disco Elysium is one of a few that I can’t forget, but it’s the only one that I think I’d tattoo quote from. Journey, Life Is Strange and The Witcher are brilliant and one of the greatest experiences I had, but Disco Elysium was something that broke me a little. Highly recommended.
Gave up on iPad and upgraded my wife’s with my Air. I think I’m gonna be… calmer (?) with only one device with my stuff on it and one device as a companion. Signal vs noise and other semi-inteligent bullshit.

I have my fair share of NFT-related knowledge built upon trading them for a second and I’m really happy that world is actually giving up on that. It might have worked, but I’d say - it’s not gonna work.
In last six months my daily job became much harder and more demanding that it was before. And even though I’m a bit more stressed because of that - I find myself doing good job. Nothing is burning, there are no flames, nothing is blowing up… I mean, that’s at least fine?!
📺 The Last of Us (2023) - ★★★★★
I would have never played this game, I’m to scarred of playing horrors. But watching it (and being able to fast forward if needed)… damn, that’s a great story and I’m really happy that I’ve got a chance to know it.

🍿 Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) - ★★★★★
Watched it a couple months ago and can’t stop thinking about it. Also it got like thousand Oscars, so apparently I’m not the only one that’s amazed by it!

🍿 The Imitation Game (2014) - ★★★★★
It lacks a bit of historical information but - once again - I really like this movie and stories like this.

A short story. We once submitted Untitled Goose Game to the Mac App Store. It was rejected by the reviewer because they thought you couldn’t skip the credits. (?!?) We explained that you could skip the credits by holding space. It was then rejected for something else and at that point we just gave up and never bothered to resubmit. Fin
Wow.
I’m still learning how my life changed after reaching 30 and apparently I’m now able to hurt myself by literally laying on the couch. Damn.
Even though I’m not like a computer person, server person, however you call it - I’m still amazed sometimes that I’m managing two proper servers with serious and used services and still didn’t blow up any of them
Just planned out how and when I’m gonna move our Discourse instance and Mastodon instance. Both are gonna have same spec’d servers, Discourse is getting a bit worse, but Mastodon is getting better one. I think it’s gonna take me lots of hours, but it’s going to be worth it in the end.
Returned to old habit of intentionally looking for new music and I’m very glad I did. This feeling of finding an absolute gem is just something else.
Here, listen to it: m.youtube.com/watch
Castro for podcasts is one of my fav apps, nothing ever was as joyful and pleasant to use as Castro is. It wasn’t updated for a long, long time, and today… It’s alive!
I’m reading Merlin Mann’s Wisdom document everyday finding what works for me and I have found this gem that is very much true:
Never argue on the internet. No one will remember whether you won or lost the argument; they’ll just remember that you are the sort of person who argues on the internet.
Mastodon is just better than Twitter. It took two months since my birdsite departure to get to this point.
Notes from selfhosting Mastodon instance: with 50 users, a couple of relays, it’s taking more than 50 gigs of space on Backblaze already. Glad that hosting is pennies but if you’re wondering how much space Mastodon could eat - yeah, a lot.
Dbrand Grip Case. If you could have only one case per phone, this is the one I’m recommending and getting myself. Grippy, feels safe and looks pretty fine if you ask me. That thing on the back, the pixel grid, is a sticker so you can have a different one or none at all.
As always, first world’s problem: Spotify’s app is just easier to use and thousand times faster (especially on a Mac), but sound quality (especially on proper sound system like Sonos) is so freaking bad that I immediately miss Apple Music. Being in a pickle is where I am.
Breakfast in hotel is designed for someone that will wake up before 11. I’m not a person that’s waking up before 11.

I was looking for a Mastodon client that would do the algorithm thing to my timeline and found Phanpy.Social. Check it out, because it works really well as an added algorithm layer on top of non-algorithmic Mastodon’s timeline.
We (as a social network) kind of made it?!
iOS 16.4: iMessage now supports rich content previews for Mastodon posts 🔗: https://9to5mac.com/2023/02/16/ios-16-4-imessage-rich-previews-for-mastodon-posts
Pulled a trigger. Just moved instances - again. This time though from my beloved social.lol to my own, social.yeswas.pl. Nothing is required from you, just please enjoy the flow of ~the content~ into your timeline.
I’m also very fine with using micro.blog apps to post to Mastodon. The only issue is that I’d like to be able to use Ivory on my mac and it’s going to suck when I can’t (I mean, I can, but then it goes just to my Mastodon) post stuff from it.
It has already been a month and a half of me having my own blog, under my own domain, with all of my content being then distributed to “other platforms” (hello Mastodon!). Micro.blog is great!
Fortunately this will be a quick fix - downloading files from S3 to put them onto the server. Not much of a job, mostly watching upload going from 0 to 100% in couple of minutes.
Ok, apparently not everything went as smooth as I’d like it to, but having backups before doing any changes is once again something that saves my ass. Seems to me like Discourse didn’t change links to uploaded data, so when I got rid off /uploads, they are 404ing. Understandable.
Happy to wake up (in general, but also) and caps on B2 are not immediately used. Which means I probably didn’t fuck it up too much in terms of configuration!
Great evening, full of coding and administrative work. I’ve finally moved all of the images from forum.yeswas.pl onto B2’s Backblaze. And I gave Mastodon on my own another go, this time from source and works flawlessly! This is… promissing?
Got this Belkin thing (thanks Kamil!) to put your phone on your Mac so it acts like a Webcam. First of all - it weights a bit so can easily move screen back - it has to be in a certain spot to works. But when it works… Works like a charm. Quality is excellent.
I really like(d?) Telegram so news like these aren’t great to hear.

New dbrand in the house. I know that it protects the phone really good but I just can’t stop using my leather case. It feels so nice. I’ve got it in case of trip or holidays. Much gripper and feels safer in my hand.
I did spend nearly my whole weekend trying to set up a pleroma instance, then mastodon instance for podcast community and failed miserably. I think I’m gonna give it a couple of months and see then if it’s easier. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
Just set up a Pleroma instance to figure out if I like it and if it works better than Mastodon was. I might want to try to create a place for podcast’s community on the Fediverse.

🍿 Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) - ★★★☆☆
Not being a fan of an actress that plays Shuri made it hard for me to enjoy her as a Black Panther. Also feels more like a tribute to Chadwik Boseman than a movie, but that’s fine, not what I’ve expected though.
Hot take: I’d like to use an opinionated Mastodon client with algorythmic timeline. No idea how this timeline should work to be useful but I liked being able to see what machine thinks I’d enjoy (and sometimes it even was right!). Easily would pay for it couple bucks monthly.

At this point so many of you recommended me this one that I don’t need to do more research. It’s coming on Friday and I can’t wait to get the WiFi sorted.
Quick question - I need new router (with AP possibly?). I’ve got 1 gig internet up and down and shitload of smart home accessories. Anything that I should look at?
I’m very glad that Mastodon supports rss so good. I’m following bunch of people, but when I really don’t want to miss a toot, I’m just adding them to my rss reader. Works like a charm!
Because - of course - I’m impatient - I’m adding more people on my micro.blog account. I’m much more of a fan of their timeline experience.
Always on the edge when it comes to the browser choice. I love Arq but Safari is quicker, has better integration with system (Apple Pay anyone?) and has great mobile version. On the other hand - Arc has extensions, that aren’t ported to Safari (yet, or never will be!).
One day I’m gonna come back to the idea of hosting my own Mastodon instance, especially when I’m finding something like that: github.com/cloudflar…
It’s too soon yet to do a production-ready stuff on the wildebeest, but it is really interesting!
📺 The Last of Us (2023) - ★★★★★
Being able to just steal a couple of warm days in the January is something else. So grateful to be able to do it!
Once again - Twitter under Elon Musk behaves in the worst way possible. Yet another nail in the coffin!
Also don’t get me wrong, this Ivory for Mastodon is great. Really great. But Gluon for micro.blog is better for my brain and I can’t just wait for micro.blog to add mass follow for mastodon!
Oh, ignorance is bliss - it feels great to not look at the internet for most of the time. Just wanted to have a mental note of it. BRB, going back to that offline for a little bit, once again!
Very happy with what’s coming to Micro.blog: help.micro.blog/t/mass-fo…
Can’t wait! I’m gonna probably move more of my stuff to my micro.blog account (for those of you reading on the Mastodon, don’t you worry, everything is seamless)!
Bought myself a PowerBank (Baseus with MagSafe). Holy… This MagSafe is really great and I’m so happy to finally experience this whole ecosystem of addons!
Putting my money where my mouth is. Micro.blog is great centre of my own universe right now and I did what I should have done!
I need to find a way to automatically follow everyone using my micro.blog account cause using Gluon is actually more fun than Ivory. Feels less like serious social media and I’m all for it.
For the first time ever I’m using 5G on my personal phone. Feels nice. Isn’t much different from my own Wi-Fi, but still - nice to have it!
Couple hours after surgery, she did a teleconference, on video, shown herself, her scar and addressed everyone so everyone knew what’s going on. She’s a beast.
I’ve decided against buying an older phone (13 Pro) and I’m unable to spend that amount of money to get 14 Pro. I wanted to have better battery so 14 Plus it is. My wife is gonna get my 11 Pro (she has SE, so that’s an upgrade). In case of great September I’m still open:)
Yesterday I did a thing. This thing is called iPhone 14 Plus and it’s going to be here tomorrow. Welp.
My mom is going to have a serious medical procedure in the morning, if you can - please keep fingers crossed. I’d really appreciate it.
Exploring new blogs to broaden my bubble is exciting. If you have a #blog - let me know. Brag about it! I want to see and read it.
I’ve started journaling for the sake of journaling. My entries look really bad, but even though it’s only a couple of days I already appreciate it. It’s good to be able to reftect on what’s going on without having to obfuscate my feelings.
Couple days ago it was nearly 20*C and people were wearing shorts. Today it’s snowing again. The climate is definitely fine and not fucked in any way.
I’m unbelievable happy with my move to micro.blog. So there’s something good that came out from Space Karen!
Won another battle with my ADHD - I’ve registered for my annual blood tests. It only took TWO MONTHS of seeing this task and moving it for another day.
I always thought that I’m gonna have some sensory issues while wearing wedding ring and here we are - I’m rarely even taking it off and I sleep in it.
Because of how Mastodon works with data, it’s unsustainable for me to run my own Mastodon instance. It’s just either getting pricey with S3 or with hosting provider. And I’m already fine with micro.blog and social.lol instance. Bye, bye!
My own (social.Orzech.me) instance of Mastodon is becoming really, really big. Without my input it grew to 8GB of disk space. That’s… not optimistic. Not sure if I’m gonna keep it around then. I might try Pleroma or Misskey instead so it’s a bit lighter on resources?
Untap.in is THE best place to play #MagicTheGathering online with friends. We just had… 7 hour session, online, on two continents, five people. It’s unreal how good it is.
Just for the record, my timeline looks weird because I’ve imported all of my statuses from status.lol. From now on they are gonna be shown on my profile!
The time of cheap flights is definitely over – said out loud whenever I’m looking at flights to cool holiday destinations.
I left my Hellshite account to rot there (and to prevent anybody to take my username) but I find it very relaxing to go there, unfollow more people and see that people I’m unfollowing aren’t already using Twitter and they’re on Mastodon.
After a walk, spent quite some time in cleaning up my internet services. Most were not needed and redundant. And I think I don’t need this level of redundancy at this point in my life.
Happy New Year folks. This one was… eventful. Lots of ups and couple of downs, but overall wouldn’t change a thing.
Here’s for the next one!
Someone on forum.yeswas.pl (beware, it’s Polish!) recommended this game and unfortunately I have sunk in it.
Micro.blog meta: It would be nice if this new post window from mac app could be invoked with some global shortcut. It would make posting much, much easier.
I’m gonna be so fucked in the morning but I did - from my phone - moved my blog from Wordpress to Micro.blog, added custom domain, configured all of the cross-posts and did basically everything to have this punt.pl be the centre of my universe. Once again. Because I remember how it went like two weeks ago.
Feels great.
